Had to temporarily pinch a cdj from Po-na-na Norwich to get the slippery snake of a manager to pay up last night! Just thought id give anyone else who has to deal with this fool the heads up so they know what to expect. First time thats ever happened to me ppl will have different opinions on talking about this but I think that kind of bullshit needs to be called out hard enough to make a living in this business without little weasels like that trying their luck!!

If so how stupid do you have to be to try a stunt like that, at least ya got your cash in the end Rob

Good few DJs insist on getting paid before they play. Dead right too.
Shit buzz that you had to get fucked around.

He left about 5 minutes b4 I finished playing, no way was I leaving there without something to show for it! Took the booking before I was with TWU so hopefully won't have this problem again, seeing whether a promoter is willing to pay a deposit or not is usually a good way to weed out the jokers who are not worth dealing with anyway.

No need to apologise mate was only that one clown causing the problem - think he was bit annoyed the turnout wasn't as good as he hoped and the crowd was a lot more into their house than dubstep but trying to pin that on a dj is pretty fucking lame

They manager asked Hush House to do a collab so it would be a house vs dubstep night, Hush House booked me and approved my fee with the manager way b4 the night, Benny Page didn't show as he didn't pay his deposit.
There was no miscommunication the guy knew exactly what i was supposed to be getting, all the more insulting as it was half my usual fee anyway

Hush House apologise for the drama, we were caught in the middle and will never be setting a foot in that door again.
The new night at Fuel is looking up for Norwich. Good soundsystem, hopefully the right kind of crowd and from what's just been said, a safe promoter.

Yeah if a DJ is with an agency, then they should be getting at least 50% of their fee upfront...(sometimes to be held by the management company) and then receive the rest on the night. But as Rob said, he wasnt with his agency at that point.
At a night I was playing though, quite a large act was booked as headliner. 50% was paid upfront to the management company, then the act turned up 40 minutes late, and quite drunk/possibly off their faces. Got probably a maximun of 10 minutes out of them, and they were still expecting to receive the other 50%.
Not saying this is what happened in the Norwich in the slightest. Just saying that some good promoters do their bit and get fucked over, just as the majority over DJs do everything they should be doing, then get fucked over.

Yeah owner managers can be dodgy that's for sure. There's a few that I'd like to mention but then people know who they are anyways and they don't tend to get much love with their fucked up attitude.

Yea man if djs are going to take the piss then fair play to not paying them their full fee that shit does happen a lot but was definately not the case on this night

It's not the first time I've heard of Dj's 'accepting CDJ's as payment' when the manager/promotor doesn't pay up. You did the right thing, doesn't matter whether these guys will be making a loss or a profit, it's their risk/job. Your job is to go down, play and get payed for it which you did.
Cheers for the heads up though, If I ever make it to Norway I'll be sure to keep my guard up
