Is Albino worth buying?

Post by bogtrotter2step » Fri Apr 09, 2010 6:22 pm

I'm currently using Reason 4 for all my bass sounds (rewired with ableton), and am wondering if switching to albino is worth the $179. Any thoughts? Can Albino make nastier sounds that Reason can't?

I love everything about albino, the only think I can't say is great is the comb filter... if you can live without that. I'd say go for it

I use it for 99% of any sound I have to make, once you know your way around it, you'll never need another synth!!

BUY IT!

No it is not worth buying if you are already using Reason 4.

Based on the better feature sets and ease of use when compared against Albino 3, go for Circle, Surge, Massive or Alchemy instead.

Consider the features that Reason offers compared to Albino.

One of Albino's strong points is the layers system. But four layers cannot compete against Reasons Combinator which offers unlimited layering potential.

I prefer the Malstroms LFO/Modulator section over Albino's LFO, and the Matrix Pattern Sequencer over Albino's one.

Assigning modulation signal sources to controls is also visually more interactive and logical using Reason, as it avoids mod matrixes by using the famous virtual cabling/wiring thingy.

There are more synthesis types available to you in Reason compared to Albino. Reason has Subtractive, Graintable, FM, and Phase Distortion covered between its various synths. That gives plenty of scope for creating every synthesised sound you could ever ever imagine.

The filter saturation on Albino is lovely, but the Scream 4 distortion device is more flexible (and should be made into a VST plugin due to its greatness!).

Yup, as mentioned above, even Blue is a better synth than Albino....

personally think its a really dope synth, easy to use and flexible. it kicks out some nice low end. there are a lot of good synths out there, see if you can dl a demo and try it out at least before buying. i thinks its good for the price but if you save a little more dough NI komplete is like 450 or something stupid cheap like that. id go for that over 1 synth for 200.

I use albino3 as my main synth, i find it brilliant for most things, but thats becuase i've taken a lot of time to learn it, my advise, stick with what you've got, learn it inside and out, then decide where you think it's holding you back and purchase something new based on that

Dont ever say these two names in the same sentence.

Why is that again? Curious to see reason behind it. Neither of them sound anything alike but both used the same synth on a bunch of tracks.
Just trying to illuminate its versatility and strength. So why can't Rusko and Benga be in the same sentence?

They used to date each other in the early days. They had a small flat in Croydon just a short walk from the main promenade where they used to take long romantic strolls and discuss the merits of same sex relationships in the machismo dominated world of underground music production.

Then Benga met Skream and just tossed Rusko aside like a ginger plaything.

The emotional pain that ran through Rusko was so great that it created a malevolent force, that some say has the power to end all creation as we know it, this force lies dormant untill the day someone stands in front of a mirror and says the two star crossed lovers names three times.........

That is why you must never mention their names together in the same sentence.

Good. Im glad we got that sorted out.
