Mac Book Pro Music-tips & tricks

So after a decade of PC loving fun a lightening strike killed my desktop (it didnt actually strike it directly you understand - that would have been much more exciting) ... anyway apart from losing a couple of my latest tunes the rest was backed up ...

BUT it made me think "Fuck it - Im going to get a mac pro" and lo I did.

Now everyone always shouts 'mac mac mac' on hardware discussions and I'm normally on the PC side ... well now I have become 'one of them'.

So what is so great eh? What special tricks do I need to know about? What don't work in comparison to PCs?

It is shiny and pretty but tell musical massive where is the joy at? Mac users eulogise PC haters make me regret it!

Closing windows on the left hand side is already making me feel dizzy.

Best trick I know is to get to the highest building, climb on to the roof, drop the said macbook, walk down (like a gentleman), unzip your pants, aim your buttocks over the debris, start defecating over the remains of the macbook, then collect it, put it in a nice little box and mail it back to Apple with a little note which says "POOPBOOK"

then buy a PC

Great start ... but dont hold back tell me what you really think!

I particularly like the appendage "walk down (like a gentleman)" in a prelude to taking a dump on the public highway - classy :t:

well, tbh, I gigged once with a MacBook, doing an ableton live set, MacBook crashed after 20 minutes... go go apple! Now im running a highly tweaked version of XP which never let me down, but thats not a real answer to your original query, the fact is, I am a very bored young man at work now craving for some forum action

//edit//

What you could do is run windows 7 on the MacBook, my colleague has done that and DAMN!

I still intend to compose on my PC desktop cos I have so many lil plug ins and shiz for PC but I will then bounce down to audio for live sets played on the mac.
Sounds like that mac infallibility dont really hold water with your experience!
Which is a shame as that is the lie/line that hooked me O_o

yeah man i would get the best of both worlds. Use bootcamp utility and create a PC partition on you HD while its fresh.
You can run XP/Vista/Windows 7 natively on any new mac hardware. very useful!

tbh, im not sure what 'tricks' you were expecting. they do the same things in different ways.
Personally I use a Mac and love its stability and OS speed. Not crashed in months...

Im not sure what tips and tricks there are either ... hence the question.

Glad you had good stability with a mac - thats the big thing for live stuff ... might try out that bootcamp cos Id like to use some plug ins that Im used to having on the mac - does it really run XP etc that well? I always assumed it would be less than stella.

im running windows 7 as smooth as man. Before that I had Win XP. Both run flawless, Apple even give you the drivers for your mac hardware to use with windows in your OSX install DVD. Print n read the instructions. Its well worth it!!!

PS: just to make it clear, theres no emulation going on. Its stright up native shit like you would have a PC laptop

Yeah it was a consideration but I need to act when the moment takes me or shit never happens.

I had been mulling over a new laptop choice for AGES - when all else fails be impulsive (does that even make sense?)

As long as what I got works good - Im happy.

Don't get me wrong, I love my MBP. But for fuck's sake, if you ever gig it out, tape up the goddamn apple logo.

(That's my number 1 apple tip)

After thinking about what you guys said RE the new range of mac books it began to annoy me that the salesman guy never once mentioned that there would be a new range of mac pros coming out (I knew there were rumours but didnt know what the date was) - Anyway I got thinking "Thats a bit shit!" :i:

So I went into Apple store today and KICKED OFF!

Result Eops 2- Apple 1 (AET)

I get to upgrade to the new mac tomorrow - once agai the mighty DSF helps me out - thanks all!
