have been looking at a few DVS systems and am quite interested in traktor scratch. Anyone have any feedback on this in comparison to serato? i know serato seems to be 'industry standard', but am wondering feature and stability wise how it stands up. What is drawing me towards traktor is the audio 8 interface which is a a fully functional audio interface itself, as well as the internal fx, midi implementation, and that fact it can read FLAC files.

am i missing something here? because for the price traktor just seems a much better option

Mostly comes down to interface and what you need it for. Traktor has a LOT more features (FX, internal mixer options, controller options etc) and you can generally do much more with it, along with everything you can do with Serato (apart from the Ableton link). But if you don't need FX and you only ever plan on using your DVS like you would a pair of turntables, Serato has a clearer GUI and is a little more ergonomic to use when you're a bit pissed in a dark club.

Serato's dominance in certain countries (esp. the states) is largely due to the fact that Traktor's predecessor (FinalScratch) was pretty shit and had a tendency to crash a lot. That was a few years back though, different hardware, different piece of kit altogether.

i use traktor with a behringer DJ controller and it does everything i could want it to do. you can use it as if it were a CDJ and ud the jog wheels and pitch adjusters to beatmatch, u can use the beatgrids and traktor will keep everything in time for ya, and u can spend AGES setting up your own controller settings so every button jus just what you want. overall i a good reliable peice of kit as far as i'm concerned, and i love being able to import my itunes playlists and have them automatically update in traktor when i change them in itunes

Yeah, thumbs up here, would have sed Traktor was industry standard more but I suppose it's where you're from?! The Audio 8 soundcard's great for producing on aswell. Some really nice controllers gonna be comin out for it soon too alongside a load that are already out there.

I use Traktor Scratch Duo, it is absolutely fantastic aside from these two issues:

1. The manual & customer support are both USELESS.
2. There are random erratic glitches

So if you are going to be playing out at clubs/partys, get Serato, if it is just for bedroom use, get Traktor.

Never experienced this. Have you tried increasing the buffer size/audio driver latency in the preferences?

Can Serato run standalone these days or does it still only run with the control vinyl? Could be a factor if you ever play any house parties etc with no decks.

You can put serato into internal mode in wich you jsut plug it into a mixer and control the pitch on screen.

but then ive had limited expeirence with Traktor but i have heard much more positive comments about serato.

check out image li-ne dacadance it will work with the audio 8 and you can load vst/vsti into it or use it as a vst inside your production software it has a learn timecode function so it will run serato tracktor ms pinkey torq timecode cds /lps
or you can burn a time code cd from the program it self just got it so glad i swithed from serato

Serato is the shiz. Plus the rane mixers are the best for scratching, so yea...

I've never had a problem with Traktor and seen plenty of dj's using it in clubs without a problem.

I just bought Traktor but only out of lack of options of DVS systems. Serato is not sold at Best Buy and I had to run this shit on my credit card. But I have been very happy with it thus far.

What is this link to Ableton with Serato though? I may have made a big mistake. I use Ableton for production. Can you rewire Serato and not Traktor?
