Soundcloud distortion

Post by jamez3 » Mon Apr 19, 2010 4:51 pm

So I I aluded to this in the finished tracks thread but basicaly the subbass on the first track that I uploaded to soundcload sounds like it's been put through a miked up fisher price speaker (not as cool as it sounds). Now I know that soundcloud isn't the highest sound qualility but other people seem to be able have subbass in their tracks without an asthmatic duck struggling to breathe over the top.
Oh and my track is very conservative in terms of levels so I don't think that is the isue.

Try reuploading, try resaving the track, try a WAV as opposed to an MP3, try anything. SC has a tendency to fuck tracks up.

Soundcloud
you can hear it in the first few seconds, what sounds like a deep subby bass in i-tunes now has this 8-bit midrange, I swear I don't hear this on other people's subs, prety sure the levels aren't to high and anyway I can hear it most in the quiet bits and it was a wav but I'll try reuploading tonight see if that makes a difference.

Pretty sure this is the Soundcloud playing resampling the mp3 to a lower bitrate... I have a problem with this on my subbier tracks too... As one of the previous posters suggested, try uploading a .wav instead, although that is a lot more data to upload than an mp3 but it might get you better results :)

Yep like I said it was a wav but I'll try reuploading and report back. I don't understand why it affects the bass, i always thought that was the last thing to go.

It's the compression they put on your uploaded tracks. This could be highlighting something in your production too tho'

that was my first guess. heard plenty of booming subs on soundcloud. spend the time looking at your work rather than re-uploading the same product.

It must be user error or mixdown problems imo.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Maybe it's the fact that it's at 128k? Added to the fact that soundcloud also seems to compress the audio harshly.
Not a good combo.

I didn't want to sound like I was bitching about SC just wonderring what I was doing wrong, sounds like it's probably mix related.

I can't actually hear any major distortion from this end. Sounds like a reasonable sub to me. Maybe it's a local setting in the player?
