Concept : Me and some of the other members have hammered out the shell of a free netlabel to give us soemthing to do around here. Each month (give or take) we will be having a themed free E.P., in which you, the producers, take the theme of the pack, apply concepts as you desire, and then submit for consideration. At the end of each submission period, we will upload all submissions and create a poll both here and on the wordpress below in which the listeners vote for best tracks. Top tracks in polls are put into compilation.

Please note this is a non-profit service, and please see our wordpress for official legal garb regarding submission.

Thus, we present... the first theme:



In this pack, we will explore EDM with a swing. The rules are simple, produce the track using as little quantization as possible. Submissions will be judged on overall sound, application of theme, and technical production skill. See wordpress link below for information on where to turn in your project, as well as legal requirements. All entries strictly due Jun. 10, 2010.

After submissions are received and organized, a poll will be held to determine who makes the release. The top 10 tracks will be chosen this time around, all styles accepted, as long as they meet the loose quantization regulations of the theme.

You could do all of this for free, just use zshare/rapidshare/sendsapce? or even that dubstep forum specific one :S and then just a blog?

you could even do it via torrents.

PS: I would be interested in picking out some tunes for this.

bro send an PM to Dubway! sounds like a good idea, other than the sample pack album.... we could have monthly submissions aswell. One track a month each & the top 13 get in the album. This would lead to monthly album cover comps as well. There are ways to make money online without paying money! any cash made could go towards prizes & such. Lets do it!! Just remember that it has to be passed by Dubway first if its going to carry the DSF name. CHEA

Nah nah nah you missed it the frontend place to organize it is very simple, a wordpress like I said is ideal, and would make cataloging everything very simple.

But we need people to decide themes and make poll posts so the community can decide what makes each one.

Then they are compiled, and linked on a wordpress account.

Very simple in essence.

need a team of creative minds n managers, cause my plates pretty full right now.... I got petty technical shit though, like I said itd just be blogs n polls, community votes on each release... creative minds come up with themes for each pack...

And no I need people to pick out THEMEs for the releases, and to make the posts...

If its a community netlabel, Id want the tunes to be picked through polls, like the sample packs are.

No no money to be made no money to be spent, prize is simply includes and the promotion of it.

Rather then just blank monthly submission Id say themed packs... Top whichever in the polls at end goes in packs... packs go on rapidshare... rapidshare linked to wordpress... free... free eps free hosting free poll posts on the board... meh...

good idea basic, I'm totally up for this

with the quality of some of the productions that go through this forum... i don't see why a bandcamp page couldn't be made & setup through paypal. i know i'm jumping the gun.... but why not? a collaborated deep underground type of thing. Only thing i don't get is why ya would limit it to sample packs? like ya could just have themes for albums... reggae, space age, robot, tribal, etc. Really i'm just putting in my 2 cents, even though i was already down from the get go!! CHEA

a digital release doesn't have to cost money at the point of release, http://www.routenote.com has a service where it is free to get your tracks in the digital shops and they would take 10% of any proceeds. personally i think the best thing is to release the e.p for free AND put it in the online shops, you put it into the shops for people who only get their music from there. personally i don't know any people like that but apparently they exist.

just means more coverage, nice to have a presence in itunes/amazon etc... even if you don't sell much. if for example people search for dubstep on amazon and then get the result "dubstep forum presents....." that can't be a bad thing.

definitely think this is a good idea whichever form it takes.

But royalties are very complicated and legal matters to be divided amongst the people on the release bleh bleh bleh... Im waiting for a few volunteers to help me maintain a wordpress frontend and start polls! Money is a very very very complicated thing that we just generally shouldnt get into. Im not at any means to make any rights or royalties from the DSF name, and I know noones gonna want to get into all that, so just drop any idea of money right now everyone stop.

yeah that's a fair point, the money could just be pumped back into the forum to help pay costs etc... but i understand not wanting to get into money issues.
