Nero

Post by dj seizure » Tue May 11, 2010 8:37 pm

I haven't been much of a Nero fan.

They did the M j Cole - sincere remix which got my attention, bought it immediately.

Then the Innocence plate came out.

Both choons are really sick. From the act like you know stuff to this, it's beautiful.

I've started to get into a habit of using Nero tracks as my openers to a set. Large up. What do you lot think?

As far as going to the darkside.... of dubstep, Nero is a pretty big producer. Always
liked the bass work.

I don't really get you mate.

The bass in those tunes is the same bass Nero have used in a dozen other older tunes (this way for example).
Don't wanna discredit them, I enjoy Innocence dropping at a party just like anyone else. I'd hardly call those tunes innovating
or a change in style though.

Can't say that I'm a fan of Innocence, but Bad Trip and Night Thunder are awesome tracks

Not too keen on opening with Nero... Too much time on the intros...

Nero, while not revolutionary in any way, puts out bangers so fast and so frequently its crazy. Anyone heard that new Forever remix by him?

Their tunes sound enormous and for lack of a better word "shiny". Theoretically speaking, I'd usually hate music with that production aesthetic but pretty much everything I've heard from them has been spot-on banging. Their Hypercaine remix or The Streets' Blinded by the Light remix from last year are my favorite tracks of theirs: big ravey tunes, yes...but excellently constructed big ravey tunes by my standards.

Plus there is a time and a place for ravey dubstep....

Valid point. Usually I prefer to open with something like Lung, or Synkro, some smooth blend.

But I only got innocence on vinyl 4 days ago ish and since then I've dj'd twice and couldn't help but start with it.

True, it took bloody long to drop.

If you look at this production from this way, to Innocence, there is an obvious improvement. Yes they're still using the same bass, but it just flows better.

Once I opened with Dawn penn - No No No. People were not feeling it, but it was one of those crowds that only wanted "filth" and everytime I brought on a little chillled one, people would think it's the time to buy more drinks. I'd put on some koan. And they'd comee running back... Sighhhh...

Yeah i agree that neros new tunes sound very similar to all their other stuff. all very big though, they seem to have worked out a style that makes for a big tune everytime. Wish they were a bit more eclectic though.
As for starting a set with them i say yes as everyone will recognise it and i think its cool to start with a long intro followed by a big drop

Night thunder = massive tune. Should definately of been the A side isntead of something else...

To be fair though i love Nero for both their dubstep and drum and bass. All of their tunes are almost perfectly produced.
