Hello good people...

So, i've finally purchased some 1210's and a pretty battered but fully working Technics mixer. My vinyl collection is growing by the day and by the time i have purchased Serato i'll be fully immersed in enough good music to keep me entertained for years to come....

I need some help and this may be a real stupid question but anyways...

Can anyone recommend me some tunes which mix really well/easily together in order to start off my djing journey with a bit more ease? I know it's generally gonna be a case of trial and error but a little push is all i'm after.... any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

find something that you know well thats dubby, find a song in the same key (they will sound good when played over one another) with a melting bassline to drop at a strategic moment, filter your highs, and

Cheers Luther, that's the kinda thing i was looking for. As i said i know it's all gonna come down to experimentation but i just wanna practice some basic mixes with 2 tunes that experienced dj's feel mix well/easily together. Once i've got a bit more confidence i'll start fine tuning my own style. Biggups

Earth run red>> midnight request line

dont just learn by mixing two tunes.

Grab two records, pitch shift one of them up and the other down. Listen to them and then mix them. Do it 10000 times and you will start to get it.

Watch you entry points, come in on the 4, 8 or 12 and just keep on going for it.

If you just stick to two tunes that mix well then you will never pick up the subtleties on how to do it with all records.

Listen to some older mixes by your favourite DJ, and try to copy mixes from them.

Now then Kizza.... i own both of these tunes !!!

I think I know the problem. When I started mixing dubstep tunes I had a small collection of tunes like:
Kode9+Spaceape- Kingstown
Digital Mystikz -Conference
Loefah- 28g

And oh, how frustated I got when I tried to mix them and didn't manage! It was only later that I realized that those were exactly the wrong records to start mixing with, haha. Too syncopated, the rhythm highly shifty etc.

So I'd recommend mixing
Skream - Hedd Banger (Tectonic) and
Headhunter - Drop the Waste (Tempa).

They sound good together, mix quite easily, and they have almost the same BPM, so you will just have to slow down the Headhunter tune a tiny little bit. And take the 3rd beat in the bar as your reference point.

I agree with most of the above in terms of messing around and seeing what works for you. However as a note I had a right nice mix with XI- G Funk 3000 & Noah D Seeerious. Perfect mix!

What i suggest is you listen to mixes. Get ideas from them and try it yourself with the records you own. What i find a lot of the time now, is that when i am mixing with no tracklist in mind etc i often get ideas of what would sound good from small elements of the tune currently playing. Guess this is the basis of key matching (correct me if i'm wrong). Either way, to do this you need to learn your records!
