Does a vestax pmc pro 05 ii work with serato?
Hey guys, as the title says, before Im hounded with "get this better mixer" and stuff like that, Im new to the whole serato djing thing( come form an ableton background), and want just a cheap little entry level mixer for home and practice. Is this mixer able to work with serato? Cheers

Any dj mixer will work w/ the Serato SL1 or SL3 boxes. But you need one of the Serato hardware boxes to run two channels of course.

SL3 has better sound quality, tbh you don't really notice it unless you are on a really good system in my experience.
I got the Vestax 05 Pro when it first came out
Another great option is the Rane TTM56 (I have now)

But doesnt the sl3 let you play vinyl and mp3 without having to switch to whatever with that new 'thru' option? thats what my may reason was for getting sl3

both allow you to use vinyl + Serato, SL3 just simplifies it and allows you to save a cable

I am a big Vestax fan considering I bought my pmc07 used in 03 and it is still kicking. I love equipment that can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

ok, so Im just about to buy sl3 from the store, but while Im out there, what else will I need to get up and running. Ive got my vestax mixer pmc pro 05 ii, 2 stanton t60's and macbook. Do i need to buy rca cables or do they come with sl3? Sorry guys if this is really n00b, Im totally new to the vinyl thing, coming from an ableton background.

That is a good question. My guess is it does include rca's but even if it does you probably want to upgrade those at some point. I know Torq didn't come with any but I think that is part of them trying to keep the cost really low. I had no problems with that. I'd say you are sorted assuming you have headphones and needles too.cutlaseer wrote:ok, so Im just about to buy sl3 from the store, but while Im out there, what else will I need to get up and running. SL3 comes w/ RCAs to connect from mixer > SL3 > turntables
You will also need cables to run from mixer > monitors

Re: Does a vestax pmc pro 05 ii work with serato?
Yeah that would depend on the monitors. Not sure about your mixer but Vestax mixers usually use a stereo 1/4" plug instead of a balanced XLR. At least that is the way mine is. If you want to go that route you might even have to make your own cables. Well they sell anything these days. Or you could just plug a regular guitar cable in there if the montiors have 1/4" inputs. Or you can go rca on the mixer and use a 1/4 inch adapter to plug in the monitors. Lots of options.cutlaseer wrote:yeah, got headphones and needles...coz i want to practise at home for a bit so i assume i need to have rca cables as well as converters or something to hook up to my monitors
My set up I use both rca and 1/4 outputs. The 1/4 with a guitar cable going directly to a set of monitors and the rca going to my desktops soundcard for recording and then I also have another set of monitors attached to that sound card. I can blast all 4 speakers when mixing if I want! Un needed info but I am bored.

I use krk rokit 5's, from the site, here is the info regarding inputs'; RCA & 1/4" TRS - 10k Ohm, Balanced / Unbalanced, based off this info, does that mean i can plug directly from the mixer to the monitors with an rca cable?
