yes yes i know i know its a bass question. AGAIN. but i don't give a shit.
anyway, i was wondering how the sort of, gated basses are done in tracks like Zappa Bomb Squad/Garden of buddah and blueberry pie.
are they actually trance gated? or are they cut up bass lines and just repitched?
if you know the tracks then you'll know what they sound like, but if you're interestedin helping a brotha out then i'll post the youtube/soundcloud links up
thanks if you help

budhha sounds like resampled synths chopped up and played back

It`s only Last year May.
May 2005 would have been epic.

It's FM synthesis. Sometimes if you have an FM patch that sounds good for a certain octave range than you try playing it way higher or lower it gets that gated sound. My guess is they made a typical FM patch, played it really high/low, resampled and pitchshifted it then used that as the main patch in a sampler.

it's not fm. it's just them making sounds in maelstrom. and bitch bending. I've gotten some similar sounds but not as clear and I used Thor not maelstrom

ironicly, these sounds don't really sound 'OMGWTF how do i make this? must be some obscure new type of synthesis' to me anymore, probably just notched and cut up reeses etc
still, big up koan sound!

really its just a distorted reese man played very high and also scream4 helps make the sound, especially koans'
