DAW of choice

i've only ever used nuendo, because it's what i learned for mixing down my band's studio sessions.

realizing it is not generally reputed as being particularly suited for dubstep production, and am wondering what daw i should make the switch to.

your thoughts and reasoning?

this may sound like common sense but... why not try demo versions and decide for yourself what DAW is more suited to your needs and workflow ?

Just use what you know man, I learnt Reaper cos I was using it for my band and I have tried all the other demo's and stuff and to me learning your way around another DAW is just a waste of time - even if you have the sickest, most expensive DAW and lots of shiny outboard £300000 vintage rack compressors and stuff it's not gonna make any difference if what you're producing is a pile of shite.

Stick to nuendo, it doesn't matter what you're using it's how you use it...same old cliche...

hmmm, i see the other dudes point but nuendo looks very much like protools in the aspect that its not really making using midi particularly easy (essential when i make tunes).

If you think you are being slowed down because of nuendo, checkout cubase, ableton, reaper (great value for money), renoise (what i use  ), Fl studio and logic if your on a mac.... those are the big uns... maybe reason, but i love my vsts and audio too much to recommend that properly...

also use the search function!!! plenty of what DAW is best threads on here for you to check out

nuendo = cubase (not protools), means you should have good midi handling....ableton midi sucks, logic and cubase good.

no reason why nuendo can't be used to make dubstep or any other type of music.

Kryptic Minds use Nuendo mate, they make some of the best dubstep going.

Nuendo is the same as Cubase with a few more bells and whistles....

I use Fruity Loops and Reason in conjunction. They're a good team I think.

Have you ever used ableton properly?

It's workflow is a trillion times faster than cubase.

How does the midi suck? You can instantly change envelopes in a tiny clip or over the entire channel. No other programme does that.

It all comes down to how you like working. What suits one particular person.

None of the daws are rubbish.

Apart from perhaps reason mainly because they force you to get two programmes that should do the job of one. Plus they don't give a shit.

Um if i remember correctly , Cakewalk sonar 8.5 can do that. As for ableton, cant stand it xD.

Id go with some of what most of them are saying, try out demo's of Renoise,Cubase, Reaper or FL Studio.
Sure they say its not the DAW its the person using it. But if the DAW doesnt have a decent logic to work with ,then youre being limited.
For example, Using fruity loops 3 instead of fruity loops 9.

why bother with any of that shit. the OP already knows nuendo he doesn't need a new DAW, just confirmation of the fact that he can do all the things he wants in the DAW that he already has and uses.

I never used Nuendo actually. But if its just like Cubase like they say , then thats great. But some DAW's do what others cant, Some have diffrent workflows.
theres no reason why he shouldnt try out demo's of other daws.

no but the only reason he started the thread is because OP thinks there is some problem with nuendo which there isn't. pretty much all DAWs can do what the other ones can just in different ways.

Exactly. but like i said, he might stumble upon something in the other DAW's that he'd feel is easier for him to do than it wouldve been in Nuendo.

Deadmau5 is a prime example of someone who understand that theres not just one DAW that does everthing the way you want it to -or like it to do-.

Developers revise DAW's more and more now. So its really a toss up.

Cubase 5 rewired with Reason 4 for me. Best of both worlds!

i've always been an advocate of the "it's not what you got it's how you use it" philosophy, i just wanted to be sure i wasn't somehow limiting myself with my choice of operating environment, as i didn't really choose nuendo as my daw as the result of due diligence, but landed in it by happenstance.

i know that my professional studio engineer friends all use pro tools for the most part, but they've never really told me what pt has to offer that any other daw doesn't.

what i'm going to take away from this is that nuendo is more/less par for the course.

thanks for the feedback, everyone.

i've used different stuff over the years depending on my comp
mainly use cubase and renoise now and teaching myself pro tools
demo em out and watch some basic tutorial vids on youtube etc and use what makes the most sense to you

personally i think the only really good reason to use PT is if you have the hardware that accompanies it, if you do then it turns PT into a beast. if you don't have it then it seems pointless.

go make some great music in nuendo ;)
