Fuck it, let the well run dry. How would that make the situation worse?
Because more oil would leak out. Just leaving it would be stupid.
Obviously more oil will leak out, I don't see how more oil can make it any worse.
It only takes a tiny bit to be a disaster. We are throwing tons of money at failing ideas trying to block the pipe, when we should concentrate on the clean up.
Whether you're cleaning up one million gallons or two... it's still going to cost a fuckload.
The difference is, cleaning it up will be money well spent.
If you let more leak out then you'll have more to clean up. If you try and clean it up while you let more come in it won't work. It's like trying to empty a bath while running the tap.
Yes well, it's a compromise, which is like coming in second place.
At least you didn't lose.
I'm saying that you let it leak, let it go dry.
Spend the money on the clean up, and BP won't have a source to drill in that area again.
If we let them fix the well, that only says we want them to continue on, same as ever.
Five years from now, it will be like it never happened.
BUT, if that well pours out onto the shores of the area for the next year... alternative energy sources are going to look pretty good to some otherwise hard sell voters.
