Starting an MP3/FLAC based record company?

Im very keen on this subject and on starting an mp3 based label and want to hear everything you guys know to get a clearer picture in my mind?

I have my own question. Why do these people charge more for the wav or FLAC? Yeah, it's higher quality...but it's still a digital file. It took zero extra effort to render the tune in different formats. not justified imo.
I mean I go straight for FLAC/wav if it's available. but it seems a bit strange.

file storage space & bandwidth (which can be argued as well) is usually the justification
