Splitting my basslines int Hi, Mid and Lo...help?
Hi guys, I was looking at few threads and a lot of people where saying they split there bass frequency's into into different 3 different channels, a Hi channel, mid channel and a low channel and then send them to the master out. Im in ableton and would like to know how to this, cheers for any advice!!

Filters or EQ's
Have a look on youtube to find out more details

Open up your synth then next to it create 3 audio tracks. Set your audio ins so that they're recieving sound from the synth then activate the IN button on all 3 audio tracks. Put an eq 8 on each of the audio tracks and set each up to isolate low, mid and high frequencies. Then add whatever effects you fancy on any of the channels. Then if you're using a recent version, shift or ctrl click on all 4 channels and then ctrl and g to group them, keeping 'em tidy.

There's a couple addons I know that allow isolate specific frequencies and you can actually turn off or on which frequencies you want to come through. I'm not even sure exactly what their names are. I know MDA Bandisto has an option to output only the low/mid/high frequencies of whatever sample/synth it's bussed to. It's also a 3 band distortion plugin allowing you to distort each frequency range by itself.

3 instances of the bass synth, each doing different things with different envelopes and settings, sometimes different notes and note lengths.

Re: Splitting my basslines int Hi, Mid and Lo...help?
in ableton theres a much easier way to archive this....
no need for three copies of your track....
just make a audio effect rack (i think theres even one in the presets to do that, i never use cause its so dead easy)
on this effect rack create three (or four or whatva) chains!
put a lopass on the first
put a locut and a hicut on the second
put a hipass on the third
frequencies and fx to taste
done

Ive got an x0xb0x tho and apparently a filter > out mod isnt hard.
Only had ableton since january. More i use ableton the more i love it, been on cubase for years but not opened in a couple of months now.

yep. this is how you do it in abletonliquid rockz wrote:in ableton theres a much easier way to archive this....

for the eq8 duplicate each one so theres 2 with the exact same settings on each low mid high
this makes it 24db and it will be more transparent (no unintentional notching)
Re: Splitting my basslines int Hi, Mid and Lo...help?
On ableton, just use the multiband compressor, make a group, then duplicate it 3 times. Solo the bass on one, the mids on the other, and the highs on the other. Then you can chain your fx from the group. Pretty simple.
Re: Splitting my basslines int Hi, Mid and Lo...help?
^ I find it easiest to do it that was as well
Re: Splitting my basslines int Hi, Mid and Lo...help?
yeah i do the same in logic. Using 3 sends from the original bass channel, with the original one turned to 'no output'CBK81 wrote:On ableton, just use the multiband compressor, make a group, then duplicate it 3 times. Ableton has an audio effect rack called "Bass Split - Chorus"
Drop the effect rack on your bass channel, delete the chorus plugins if you wish, and voila.

CrossOver by rs-met

fr33some by de la Mancha (the splits are done using inversion, not crossover filters, so each band is truly split from the others)

How would I go about this in Fl Studio?
Re: Splitting my basslines int Hi, Mid and Lo...help?
Im not really understanding the purpose of this...
Is it so you could apply effects to say just the mid-range bass for example and leave the others unaffected just to make the bass sound that much crazier??

many different purposes, but the key to most of them is shaping the mids and highs while retaining the clarity of the lows. for example, adding stereo width to mids while keeping the bass mono.krispy wrote:Im not really understanding the purpose of this...
