I have never used one before, been trying to save for one but failed miserably, playing out tonight and might give one a whirl as I burnt a few CDs...
How do you cue a CDJ? I see people tapping something... either a cue button or a play button but when I (very briefly) fiddled with one last weekend when i was tappin em it didnt do what I expected it to do just played and paused, and pressing the cue button like that just seemed to set a cue point. I'm confused.
Sorry for retard question.

on pioneers it auto cues the start, so if it's playing and you press cue it goes straight to the beginning again
if you need to set the cue somewhere else for whatever reason, i switch the cdj to vinyl mode, and find the point i want to cue using the vinyl emulation
then hold cue, and the new cue point is set

pressing cue when the track is not playing will set a new cue point
pressing cue while a track is playing will return you to the cue point
alot of people tap the cue button to get the timing right but is not essential when trying to mix. just try setting your cue point and then pressing play when u want it to start

might be a wise idea to spend some time playing with them and getting a feel for not having a moving platter etc, can be confusing at first.
people you see tapping are using the cue button, i do that myself lol

no i was rolling my eyes cos you tap the cue button
it's completely pointless, seeing as your going to be pressing play anyway
you might as well tap the plastic frame, and save wearing out the button
edit: when we were mixing at mine, i could hear you bashing down on the cue button over the music

cheers guys much appreciated, I find them (CDJs) really intimidating, seriously weird not being able to 'see' the music. Also buying MP3s is very odd, but is was nice getting like 5, 6 tracks for a tenner whereas that would cost me closer to £30 on wax. I like the fact you can DL artwork with them as well, that made it worthwhile. (OCD).
One more question, it's not that important as I only have a few dubs and about 5 digi tracks, but how do you choose what you put on a CD? I'm guessing you whack tunes you dont think youll ever mix together on the same CD? Seems waste to burn a CD for every track

a load of one artist on a cd
or a cd per release
but most of the time just random tracks around the same bpm

actually i find it a good way to keep in time, it's like going back and forth on a record... getting a feel of the music in a way.
sorry next time i won't press cue more than once when we're at yours for each track

hackman.... this 'vinyl mode' you speak of, does the platter thing spin when that's on?
Edit... Re-read what you said, guessing its like you spin it to find bits

yeah it's motionless
if your a vinyl dj, i'd just keep it in vinyl mode the whole time, makes much more sense
and is basically just like mixing vinyl, except it's not spinning

Aha...
I've been 100% vinyl, but I have some unreleased stuff, and even a couple ninja dubs that I've had for a while and really want to play them. Dont really
want to use CDs, just feel pressured to.

i still got my turntables, and still buy old garage and house vinyl
but it just doesn't make sense not starting on the cds, especially with your own tracks and people sending stuff

cds are class. was against it at first but its broadened what i can play so much. like u were saying in the other thread about playing more at 130, its given me far better options and allowed to buy so many more tunes which i prob wouldnt have been able to do
