Techno -> UKG ... UKG -> Techno

Post by Littlefoot » Tue Jun 15, 2010 6:35 pm

So..

Techno tunes that, on purpose, or otherwise move into a UKG esque sound/rhythm palette... and vice versa...
Im

Hessle audio stuff and some of Wookies more experimental stuff comes to mind.. also Artworks tune off Tempa Allstars 1.. lots of Spatial's stuff also.

Not really looking for obvious Basic Channel and Miminal influenced stuff, more the traditional end of Detroit Techno and some melodic European stuff.

I do think there are many parallels in tracks we are hearing from the likes of Mageeka, Hard House Banton, Fingaprint, Tadow, Lil Silva, NB Funky, Sami Sanchez, Altered Natives, DJ Naughty, Agent X and even Zinc and some of the Chicago\Detriot tracks of the first house era (86-90) and I would not be surprised to hear a lot of the older tracks re-emerge ( to what would be a new audience) and played alongside the tracks of today- To my ears the common factor is FUNK, the groove

To elaborate on the above I'll start with an honorable mention for these original UK pioneers - Don't sleep on their productions some KILLER tracks to be found from
A Guy Called Gerald
Nightmares on wax
The Forgemeasters
LFO
Unique 3
Original Clique
T-Coy
Nexus 21
Baby Ford
No Smoke
100hz
B12
Tru Funk
Groove

Here is some Original UK pressure even the mayday remix couldn't surpass this imo.Timeless classic tune 22 years old

And this is beyond words- one of the rawest dance records to ever come out of the UK

Future Past- Nebula Variation

Onto some roots and Detroit Techno House(after all this was their take on the house that they had heard in the warehouse in Chicago...)- these are a good starting point

For LPs (Vinyls should be cheap as chips) these are worth checking
Techno the dance sound of Detroit (Ten)
The Relics LP there are 2 versions one on Buzz and one on DFC
The innovator Vinyl boxset or CD
The 313 LP (Infonet)
Techno 1
Techno 2

Blake Baxter- When we used to play, Crimes of the heart, Sexuality

Heres when we used to play

Rhythm is Rhythm – the dance, stop move it Nude Photo ,It is what it is, KAOS, Feel Surreal, Freestyle, Spaced out ,MS6

This is good

Off the same 12

What Mayday did to it is what is, here is nothing short of remarkable- I never tire of this

one more from Mayday

Kevin Saunderson Reese and Santonio – The Sound, How to play our music, Groovin without a doubt Reese Rock to the beat, Just want another chance, The groove that won’t stop, forcefield, bounce your body to the box, Reese- Baseline

Kevin Saunderson is possibly the most versatile Detroit producer from Reese to Inner City to Edancer to eseer all different but all very Detroit. By the way Jovonn has released a track based on Just want another chance..

Here are 2 all time Kevin Master Reese Saunderson killers

Also check out the Plus 8 label
Kenny Larkin- rubbernotes,

I never really rated Technarchy but the b-side tracks are mindblowing-
Cybersonik Melody 928
Cybersonik Carousel
States Of Mind Altair IV.1

here them here.. scroll down to the one for sale with the player next to it, the frist track is technarchy (which was quite big) but its the ones after that do it for me

Here are a couple of Detroit style tracks out of Europe

Max404 May the force be with Us not on youtube but its very similar to this

Ismistik -Flow Charts forgot how good this is..

Thanks Djshiva- It's great that some of these tunes (and there are of course many many more) are being rediscovered by a new audience.

As good as a lot of the UK Garage was (especially Tuff Jam) it was for the most part a take on the New York\New Jersey Sounds from producers like MAW, Smack etc but I think this new wave is produdcing music that is a lot wider than UK Garage ever was.
