yea collazo can pull some surprises as he seems to be a game opponent, but last year he lost to a smaller hatton and overall his ring experience pales in comparison to that of mosely. aside from hatton, who else has collazo fought? mosely on the other hand has been fighting top ten fighers since '98. collazo may have an advantage in youth and weight. he's 25 and has fought at welterweight/light middleweight his entire career whereas mosely is 35 and started out as a lightweight. still its null....mosely is a young 35 and has settled into welterweight/light mid quite well, evidenced by his two tko victories over a tough but fading fernando vargas. the wildcard in this fight may be collazo's southpaw stance. mosely's only losses (winky wright, vernon forrest) were to southpaws, but suffice to say collazo aint on that level. i think mosely is taking this fight in similar fashion vs. vargas.....late round tko.....gradually breaking collazo down. experience wins out.

as for the undercard, it should be interesting. vivian harris, notoriosly inconsistent , what with his upset knock out loss to unhearalded carlos maussa and his recent lackluster tko victory over a small and aging stevie johnston, who knows how he'll perform on sat? he has all the physical gifts to be a title holder, but seems to lack mental focus in the ring. his opponent, lazcano is a tough customer. he may not be as athletic as harris, but he has a tight defense, hits hard, and takes a good punch. he has the kind of plodding boxer-puncher style that harris should steer clear from. harris needs to box and pick lazcano apart. possibly to a decision victory. if harris falls into exchanging with lazcano in close, it'll be a carbon copy of his ko loss to maussa.

dust shop......i wouldn't go so far as to say mma is more technical than boxing as the sweet science is tied to technique just as much as, say muay thai or jiu jitsu. granted, mma includes both a striking game and ground game, but that's because the rules of engagement for each sport are entirely different. apples and oranges, my man. that said, everyone's entitled to an opinion as i suppose its all subjective.

i agree ricky, i dont think callazo will win.i am thinking more along the lines that he could surprise mosley. mosley has always struck me as an overachiever, he lost to winky right twice, he lost to vernon forest twice.

he did beat de la hoya twice...but those was pretty lackluster times for oscar. anyways, his flashes of brilliance are impressive.really looking forward to this fight tonight.

i would like to see collazo come out on top, but i am not optomisitic.

i would like to see mosley fight hatton personally, i think their styles would yield a tremendous fight.

the undercard was interesting also, i hadnt seen either fight before or didnt remember it. harris was asking to get beat the whole night, if just would have danced and used his reach advantage it would have been a decidedly different fight.he was obviously the more polished fighter.


on another not, de la hoya hiring freddie roach for the upcoming fight, is one of the smartest moves he has made.

i think it's gonna be the v fight of the decade....but the March 17 Barrera/Marquez matchup should be a war.

See -- that's just it....I dont really think of Mosley as an overachiever at all. He's one of the better fighters of this generation -- and -- he clearly has issues with southpaws. Styles make fights...and Forrest had Mosley's number....even during the amateur days. There are some fighters that you can't beat.

Frazier couldnt beat Foreman.
Arguello couldnt beat Pryor.
Hearns couldnt beat Leonard or Iran Barkley.
Barrera couldnt beat Junior Jones.
Gatti couldnt beat Ivan Robinson.

You see where i'm going with this. No matter how hard Mosley tried....he wasnt gonna get Forrest. Wright -- well -- that's a completely different thing altogether. There's a reason no one wants to fight him and there's no real shame in losing to Wright twice. You know you're a good fighter then Manny Steward says, "Mosley should have never taken the fight against Wright. That's a bad fight for anyone." Everyone in and around 160 has ducked Winky for years. His boss, Oscar DeLaHoya, wanted no parts of him. Do you honestly think Mayorga, Spinks or Zab Judah wants any or Wright either? The answer is no...three times.

Here's the funny thing....you look at Wright and you ask yourself, "What does he do well?" He doesnt have one-punch KO power in either hand like Pacquaio. He doesnt have hand speed of Mayweather. He doesnt remind you of JM Marquez....in terms of technical ability. He's not a young Roy Jones in terms of elusiveness. Winky stands in the middle of the ring, keeps his elbows pinned to his ribs and jabs you. When was the last time you saw anyone get a clean shot to his body?

back to Saturday night....Collazo was hitting him with clean shots here and there, but Mosley was far too fast and too skilled. Now -- the Cintron match would have been interesting. I can only hope for a matchup against Cotto or Hatton. Either way, Mosley would win.

The first fight was everything you needed to see about boxing. and -- the display of Harris v Lazcano is the reason we love boxing. It's the only sport where you see one man -- literally -- impose his will on another. It's not like other sports...Just like Jim Lampley said during the fight...it's will versus skill.

All Harris had to do was shoot the jab, circle to the left, keep the fight in the middle of the ring, throw right hands and he would have won every minute of every round. Lazcano was determined to keep the action close, thus neutralizing Harris' reach advantage and his jab. That fight was close until the last round when the ref took away a point for low blows....which was a terrible decision (in my opinion). Harris won a hard-fought battle and honestly, he was expected to. He's always been a solid professional @ 140.

Hatton...he's Hatton. I dont think i need to tell boxing fans how great of a fighter Castillo is.

Was there a better fight than Corrales - Castillo I?

Gatti - Ward I ?
Barrera - Morales I ?
Barrera - Morales III ?
DeLaHoya - Mosley I ?

These fights...(SINCE 2000) were all great....but Corrales/Castillo I was too much.


Any thoughts on this one?

Think this will be hatton's most demanding fight yet IMO.

Thought he fought the first half of his last fight very well, but seemed to lose energy as the rounds wore on.

To have a chance against castillo I think he going to have to hit the gym.

1. Hes going to need more strength/shot power, to make use of any openings in castillo's defence. couter punching very important/

2. Increase stamina if he is going to last the full fight.

His raw determination counts for a LOT tho, IMO.

P.S. Pound for pound I still think Joe Calzage is the best british boxer at the moment. His demolition of Jeff Lacy was a total boxing masterclass.

P.P.S. Cant see Harrison coming back to the top level. It will be a long hard road if he does manage it. Was susprised at his lacklustre performance as I thought he beat danny williams quite convincingly in his fight before last.
