Dank Morass is honoured to announce the third artist from Los Angeles’ renowned Brainfeeder collective to play Brisbane: Ras_G & The Afrikan Space Program. A one-man sonic riot, Ras_G brings his SP-404 augmented orbital assault to the Step Inn on Friday July 23.
Los Angeles' favourite "EL Ay-Lien", Captain Of The Afrikan Space Program and power forward of Flying Lotus` mighty Brainfeeder Crew, Ras_G has spent countless hours cooking up in the Information Space Station he calls Spacebase 2031. Tapping into a long tradition of Afro-futurism, his live sets of heavy 808 electronic psychedelic beat-gumbo, punctuated by his trademark air horns and "Oh Ras!" shout-outs, leave the crowds devastated and wanting more at the same time.
His prolific discography includes numerous 7”, 10” and 12” releases on LA’s fabled Poo-Bah Records, who also put out Ras’ debut full length Ghetto Sci-Fi landed in 2008. Subsequent mix CDs were followed by the epic Brotha From Another Planet (Brainfeeder, 2009), the “Destination: There” EP on Ramp Recordings and this year’s split 10” with Samiyam on Dublin’s irrepressible All City imprint.
Ras G has rightfully garnered spins around the globe from heavyweight bass tastemakers, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Giles Peterson. He has remixed for Flying Lotus, Carlos Ninos’ Build An Ark collective, Take and Clouds, and his tracks are mainstays in the steadily pulsating LA mix culture.
In support, the Morass brings Brisbane’s own Samedi Sound System, the three-way sound murderation squad of Baron Oneway, Vira San and Potato Master. Upholding a global agenda with a strong dubwise underpinning, the Samedi crew are dancefloor voudoun practitioners of the highest order.
Additional atmospherics will be provided by the Dank Morass DJs Walrii, Swob and Danck, rocking eclectic extended sets that tracks the trajectories of dubstep, hip hop and heavy electronica.
