Dub_Dirty_Dub wrote:Hey,
I recently started getting into Dubstep, listening to artists like Skream, Bar9, Excision, Datsik, Downlink, Distance and Kromestar to name a few. I also like metal and punk so I really love dark heavy stuff

. Anyway, I'm just wondering, how do I get started out mixing with regards to equipment (I know you get what you pay for, but I'm on quite a low budget) and software aswell as actually learning how to beatmatch etc. Any tips or advice is really appreciated! Also, if you could recommend any artists I might not know about that are metal influenced or just so dirty you need a shower after listening to it
Oooh and if anyone knows what the best speakers would be for my PC to get the most out of the stuff I listen to.
Cheers
hmmmm
If you wanna get starting mixing you need to work out if you are going to be a vinyl only DJ or a CD / Digital DJ.
I personally use a Digital Vinyl system because it gives me flexibility around new tunes and mixing my old favourite records with unreleased bootlegs I might get from producers.
If you want to go down the mixing root then you might be looking at
1 2 Decks (get Technics 1210s or 1200s everything else is serious waste)
2 a Mixer get something cheap to begin with. Someone might give you a free old old one just to get you started
3 some vinyl
4 sound card
5 laptop
6 traktor / serato
you really need a decent system to plug them into, there is no point in listening to dubstep without a subwoofer.
Try to get a stereo rather than speakers for you computer.
build small and slow. Maybe just go for digital at first so you dont have to splash out for 2 decks, a mixer and vinyl. Something like serato itch with a midi controller could be just what you need.

Anyway in terms of learning how to mix, thats going to be hard to teach yourself. Maybe youtube tutorials and getting someone to help you out is the way forward.
Chasing Shadows, Bassnectar, Coki are all class people to check out.
Buy the music, support the scene. Best of luck.
