It seems a bit clunky. Shape memory alloys based on thermal heating or voltage might be a better way to go in the future rather than mechanical actuators.

I can see a lot more practical domestic uses for this technology than using it as a weapon, unless you get your enemies to bend down really close to it and then have it poke them in the eye.

Hahaha yeah. I'm sure that demonstration is pretty old though. Who knows what the classified version does by now. I bet there will be surges in people reporting transforming UFOs in the coming years.
