BASS HARMONICS

Easy everyone, once again back with another bass question. I've always heard a lot of harmonics on Drum and Bass sub's and mid bass, here is a clip of what I'm describing, the part comes in at :54 this is the main bass.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRn2vq9dfiQ

I've been using Reason's plugin Unison to get this sound with a little bit of sine shaping and envelope modulation/filtering, what do D&B/Dubstep producers here on the forum use to make this type of sound?

I really appreciate the feedback, thanks!

:D

Hey thats a nice track. Im personally getting into dnb alot more now. You can get that sound modulating a band pass or a notch filter with a slightly high resonance. the drum work on that track was nice aswell, solid kick with not so much tail.

Personally I cant do REason when it comes to dnb or dubstep. Its too limited imo. You might want to consider on getting a vst host style DAW and try out Cakewalk z3ta+ vsti.

But you dont mess with the sine wave, its all in the saw waves which has more actual harmonics. Ill try to mess with Thor tonight and hopefully help you out.

Waveshaping is really popular. Don't know much about what Reason's got now but the Scream unit should get you some nice harmonics if you play with it enough.

Edit: He's talking about a sine shaper not using a sine wave. Now it's time for "The adventures of Noob in Google Land"
Also resonant band pass filters won't do anything if there's no material there unless they're self oscillating which isn't what the OP is looking for. For adding in harmonics you're most likely going to need a waveshaper or distortion unit.

Couldnt sworn i said i dont use reason for anything really. :t: LOL so wait ....3 Saw wave , with unisons and detuned , no distortion ,using a band pass filter increasing the resonance value of the filter does nothing?...... ????????

Stop trolling sunklo its getting old. If anyone is a Google master its certainly you.

Never said it does nothing I said it doesn't add harmonics, only accentuates the ones that are already in the saw wave.
Read what I say before trying to make fun of me for it you fucking noob.

And the OP is the one using Reason, who gives a fuck about what you use? I'm giving him information not you, you obviously already know everything, I have to google like mad just to keep up with you

Talk about not reading. Notice as i mentioned would go on Reason to figure it out?

You take the cake , yet again. Kidiot :)

Point out where I mentioned what i use. Just do that. Stop ruining threads.

* waits for your typical reply "you not knowing what youre talking about ruins the thread" . :i:

no, it's the fact that you come in here babbling about shit that has nothing to do with what the op was asking for. you always talk about this irrelevant shit using complex terms you don't even understand to try to make yourself seem intelligent, and then call people "google masters". Then the OP comes along and mentions sine shaping and you're fucking lost

which just goes to prove that you act like a smartass yet you have no idea what you're talking about

That was in reply to this mangled sentence:
Moxxiedubstep wrote:Couldnt sworn i said i dont use reason for anything really. :t:
Which was in reply to me talking about reason's devices in response to the op

I take the cake for what? For once again not quite getting the fact that you're an ignorant tnuc through you thick ape skull?
If so then I quite agree.

Moxxie everything you say is either a contradiction, useless, stupid, or more commonly, a combination of all three. You go around chatting like you're hot shit but when someone calls you out on it, you ignore it and end up quoting something else they said out of context and then imply that they're dumb.

Take for instance the waveshaper thing in this thread. "LOL ur rite dumb thinking that filters with high resonance don't add harmonics."
But they don't, as I explained. Anyone else who knows their shit will tell you the same thing. You are in fact the stupid one, and once again when this is pointed out, you ignore it and try to twist it around like I'm some idiot troll who's just fucking with you.

You think I'm a troll? Go look through all my posts in any production threads. Copy and paste some quotes here and give us some actual proof that I'm just talking out of my ass. I'm not trying to brag like a twat, but I think I can rightfully say that anything I contribute to a discussion on production is helpful or at least not misleading.

As a counter balance, go look at all the posts you've made. The majority are either wrong, conceited, or insulting. Everyone that replies to you is either telling you that you're wrong or calling you a twat. Remember the mac software thread? Maybe I'll go dig that up.

Yet you still think I'm a troll? Do you even know what a troll is? Until you can provide us with some proof you just make yourself look even stupider every time you call me that.

nice job contradicting yourself. I said i dont know about sine shaping. Whats your point. Read the whole post before making yourself look like an ass. the point is to get the sound on the video. nothing else. Stop bumping your heads together. And the way i see it, if you cant replicate the sound in the video then dont even make a post. just beacuse you "read" how its done wont really help anyone as theres many ways to do it. Post something like yourself MAKING the sound.

By the way, it's because the "pros" don't like being contradicted and then called asshats by some greasy little 14 year old stooge.

Once again you ignore everything and concentrate on some bullshit irrelevant thing. The sineshaping thing was in response to you trying to act like a know it all and tell the OP not to use sine waves.

Where did I contradict myself? Or did you just use that word because you heard me say it?

You have serious comprehension problems. As i said this in relation to making the sound THAT IS IN THE VIDEO YOU DONT HAVE TO MESS WITH SINE WAVE/SINE SHAPER TO ACHIEVE THAT SOUND.

Where do i say "not" to use sine waves?

can you understand that one? or do i have to break it down into your native language of retard.

You're telling him to use saw waves instead

ie, don't use sinewaves

Phigure for the sound in the video. you can use saw waves. It is an
OPTION. another method other than what is originally thought to make the sound

C'mon you wanker you obviously thought he was talking about using sine waves and jumped in to tell him that saw waves were better. Then when we pointed out that he's talking about sine shapers to introduce harmonics (gasp the subject of this thread!) you tried to back-pedal to keep yourself from looking stupid.

Mission failed.

and besides

using saw waves for this sounds is kind of counter intuitive imo

this bass sound is just a sine with some subtle harmonics added, while an ideal saw wave has an infinite number of harmonics
