Sorry in advance: Sub in Massive

I really need a meaty sub in massive, I can get it meaty and subby but only arround E0 to G0 then it stops being so subby and below that it sounds weak and limp. I really could do with some help on creating a 'phat' sub sound

Thanks, Pantalon Noir

there was just a huge thread about subs on this board....

scroll the fuck down or use the search button

have you put all te levels up in the 4th envelope?
have u used a bit of unison, lets say 4

maybe a very tiny bit distortion for some grit

do you have a sub at home?
do you work on monitors or crappy speakers?

I've been using my AKG speakers today, but I have a big bass amp next to me which picks up sub well

No unison on your sub unless you are experimenting, please.

If you want clean heavy sub, kiss, sine. As a start, and often destination.

Read that leg guy's sub thread. Do it.

Don't make your sub in massive. There's no point.

Yes, I'm not dissing massive (thats another debate for another time, I personally don't really like it but that's not what I'm on about here) it's too powerful to waste on a sub, any synth with a sine wave oscillator will do, most people just use a stock synth that came with their daw for their sub.

Any simpler synth that also has a sine wave and an amp envelope aka every synth.
If you have a mad powerful computer it doesn't really matter much but like paravrais said there's really no point to using a big synth for something as simple as a sine sub.

If it doesn't sound heavy below a certain point it's either a monitoring issue or a 'approaching the lower limits of human hearing' issue. Add in another oscillator an octave or two higher and turn it down so it adds a bit on top to make it more audible.

And read Legend4ry's sub thread.

Find a synth that has a sine that you like. Yes I know that a sine is a mathematical entity, but I also know that that intangible idea takes differing forms in the real world.

Do you mean a pure sub, or a deep bass tone?

A pure sub is literally a sine wave, and although you can use Massive it is a little overkill, any soft synth will produce a sine wave. It is there to be felt more than heard, and is usually layered with other bass notes to create that 'meaty' or 'full' sound that you hear.

But year, look up Legend4ry's sub bass guide around a dozen posts down bro.

You can fucking use whatever synth you want for your sub

Lol, so angry so quick.

It's just reasonable and accurate advice mate, no need to cry about it.

you mean like, a bass guitar bass amp?

because i did this for years myself. it's a terrible idea. it's engineered to tone a very specific sound and is gonna mess up any correct perception of the sound... i can't imagine it's low end response is really that great either, my tnt115 wasn't at all

if i'm wrong, um, carry on

After reading a comment on this very forum I ditched the sub i was using in albino and looped a small (1 cycle) section of the tail of an 808 kick and I have to say the results were a MUCH more usable sub and if I were to pick one word to describe it .. MEATY would spring to mind. Give it a go it may be exactly what you want, it was for me altho YMMV.

while thats true, massive's sine, in my opinion, sounds thinner than the sine sub I can get from 3x3osc
