SNH Exclusivity

A guy I work with goes on a forum called Red Cafe. It's a Man Utd forum. Anyway....they have 2 sections; A Noob section, and a main forum (or something along those lines).

The only way you can post on the main forum is by mods promoting you. Can we have something like this for the SNH? As it gets a spill over of plebs.

Just an idea.

would be good in a way but that kind of elitism wouldn't make it a very nice place to be, and who gets to pick who gets "promoted"? it'd solve some problems and cause even bigger ones as a result

being a "noob" doesn't make your opinion any less valid and it wouldn't be fair to exclude them as a result. to be perfectly honest a lot of the older posters are what i'd consider "plebs" but that doesn't mean i'd want them shoved into a noob forum

Hmm, I like the idea but it'd never work because someone has to be incharge of it and that someone will be the one choosing who can or can't use it, which obviously not everyone would agree with.

Only alternative I can think of is people 'apply' to become part of it, then existing members vote them out or in. (But that raises the problem of how existing members are chosen)

But as said it does smell of elitism.

It works well on there as there's so many members. I agree that it'll be near impossible to enforce it on here...but I'd rather donkey threads and racism etc were kept out of here. SNH should be a place jokes and banter. Not "I believe this, believe it or I shall forver troll your comments".

All other ideas welcomed.

p.s. nothing wrong with elitism as long as I'm an elite

bad idea.

SNH works fine as it is, plebs post, people ignore them or shoot them down (like society), can't we have faith that the majority of ninjas aren't plebs will call out plebby behaviour? Can't we all just get along??

:w:

We have an idealist in our midsts...I generally agree with this notion...but there are a few that persist.

Could have a system where its only open to people with a certain amount of posts?

that'd be completely pointless and counter productive because people will just spam to get to the required amount of posts

basically we have to deal with idiots/plebs/noobs/trolls/whatever you want to call them as long as they abide by the rules, and if they break them then they'll be dealt with... and then whinge about it incessantly :P

They have a good system on the gamefaq boards. That revolves around posts and a point system.

actually, doesn't the friend/foe thing eliminate the need for this?! I haven't used it yet but you can ignore people can't you?

TBH I think it's far better that moderators like 'Badger' don't want to have to take it all too seriously. It's an online message board... The reality is all of the power and experience is in the hands of each user, after all, they're the one guiding the mouse and keyboard around. Isn't hard to sift wheat from chaff is it. As for trolls and noobs, doesn't really piss me off, if anything I feel sorry for the lonely bastards that they've developed an addiction to something that considers them an allergy

Same goes for aspects like spending countless days dwelling in the production area, serving no other purpose than informing people of the rules. What's the point... Strange how people can jump at the chance to become mechanised and imprison themselves in the process

i do like the fact that you have to be a registerd user before you can even see the snh on the forum anyways.

i visit the red cafe alot, but i dont like how you have to have certain email address to register.
