REVIEWS OF STUFF... WHY!?

Post by alextheswede » Wed Jul 21, 2010 2:32 am

they're just words to me! everyone has a different taste of music even if it's in the same genre... people like songs for different reasons! To me reviews are just used to fill up pages in magazines...

thoughts?

An extension of that would be that opinions are useless. Reviews are opinions. I take an interest in others opinions.

If a review says ïf you like 'this' then you might dig 'this', or if it says 'sounds like this person', who you might happen to be a fan of then it could be very helpful, cuz you will be a bit more inclined to check it out.

Personally I reckon reviews are great. It sucks when something you've done gets a shit review, but it helps the artist better themselves. To look at what they've been doing and see if they can make it better.

I find them interesting to compare my listening experience to the author's, but other than that relatively useless unless you have your name established and people can sort of trust your judgment based off of reviews.

Do you only talk to people that have the exact same opinion as you?

so we dont judge releases by their covers. they allow us to make informed decisions about the music we are purchasing

They're the same thing. the only difference is that some people have found a way for others to PAY them for their opinions. That doesnt invalidate them just because people are paid to have their opinions published.

Exactly. And to expand on it, lots of people value other people's opinions when it comes to certain subjects. I guess my question would be what's wrong with reviews of things? We all have different points of view sure, but what's wrong with sharing them?
