in that price range i can recommend something like a Juno 106, or even an SH201/101. Maybe you might be able to stretch for an MS20.

But imo, for that amount of money i would get a Virus Ti... Either desktop or keyboard. They are integrated with software, so you can build your patches on the computer like a plugin etc and are synonymous with dance music in general. Get one!

The list price on my virus was like $1699 back in the day, can get it on ebay for like $450 now. Analog tends to go the other way. Check dave smith. Don't know if that stuff will appreciate, but maybe it will.

I heart my Virus, but if I was looking for another synth I'd probably go for one of the Dave Smith ones

Depends what you're looking for sound wise, if an all round workhorse is what you're after then as has been said the virus or the sh series is a good start. Personally I'd go for a prohpet '08 or Poly evolver.

Got the desktop mono evolver and it smacks it.

Ask yourself some questions: How many oscillators do you need? Do you want monophonic (for bass, leads and fx) or polyphonic (also pads and the like)? Do you care for built in FX? Dou you need to save your patches? Do you want an arp?
Sh series for example is monophonic, makes for nice bass and leads, but thats it. Filter is badass, but soundwise its kind of a one trick pony. And dont need to buy a Virus TI imo, soundwise its 90% similar to Virus B which is a quarter of the price. The TI integration is nice, but thats not the silver bullet for me. Plus all stock patches ar drowned in FX , and who needs 96 voice polyphony???
Basically my point is, do your homework, learn about subtractive synth architecture, read stuff on knowledgable forums (does this word exist?) and check out sound samples. If you have found out what you really need, the choices narrow down by themselves. And look at ebay for second hand gear, if you look at sellers rating and only by from sellers with a good history, you can make a bargain every now and then. 1300 Eur is a lot of money, so gain some knowledge before investing. Plus, outboard gear is more fun if you hunt it down, not just buy the "most-acclaimed-blinky-blinky-synth-of-the-day".

I was lookin at the Nord Lead 2x but then again I don't know if I realistically need it at this level yet nor can I justify spending £900 right at this moment. Anyone used one before or similar? Any info would be nice.

ive used a clavia nord before loved it so versatile and really nice to use wish i had the cash to buy 1 though. it was at collage i used it. (when i did my music tech degree)
and the best thing about it is what ever you make on it ya can use with the discovery pro vsti which is awsome.

depends on what type of sound you want but the dave smith stuff is cool, i have the mopho and really like it. it has a great sound, but its a bit of a pain to program. im sure the tetra is cool too.
other than that shop around pawn shops and ebay for deals.

i'll never give up my virus, but above is correct something by dave smith would suit you well.
maybe the tetra or the mopho.
i would recommend trying them if possible before a purchase however.

i assume you have one. i checked the youtube demos and frankly was not that impressed, maybe i am missing something.

There are only a few YouTube videos and tbh most of them are pretty shit - the circuit bent one in particular is a waste of time IMO.

I saw a recommendation from Hoochi on an old Grid Q&A session ("pisses all over the virus at a fraction of the cost"), and when I spotted one going cheap on eBay bought it to give it a try. Mainly used to bass noises, haven't yet tried to use it as a lead synth sound.

only one i liked -alesis andromeda,but it was 1900eur,i think i going to steal it tonight

Is a beast, never used one. I have very bad feelings towards alesis, but still.

when i got it i sold all my digital synths,this thing is beast and 1800 is good price i think...

hmm-you could start making yourself a modular setup for that price-some doepfer oscillators, filters, ect. for that price-mix n match-would be sweet

I think Clavia Nords are very diverse, but I think a virtual synths sound quite a bit different to having a heavy circuitry synth like an old Korg MS-20
