Making a monk chanting noise on a synth

Post by dr_winston » Sat Jul 24, 2010 10:04 pm

hi, i'm in the mood for making some theological jungle and want to get some monks in there for good measure. obviously i could just use samples but i was wondering if i could make a similar sound on albino (or any other)?

do you think it's possible, if so any tips on how to achieve it?

cheers

Lots of osc's/synths stacked, envelopes to pitch/filter, lfo's to pitch/filter, formant filters, subtle good chorus, reverb, maybe layer up with monk samples/choir samples/maybe some rompler choir presets. Record yourself having a chant, layer that up 50 times, reverb individually and together.

Theres a classic monk chanting or, random babbling in a preset in reason on the maelstrom. Hook it up!

I vaguely remember a plugin for cubasis years ago, called 'Father Charles', or something to that effect. But this is exactly what it was, a monk emulator. Maybe have a look for that. :)

I recorded myself through my SHITTY laptop's mic once and turned it into a monk sounding chant. Put it in a kind of minimal tribal housey thing, was actually really cool I should go find the project file. Some nice detuning and reverb will get you there. I think I remember layering a few samples on top of each other and adding some chorus running into a nice dark reverb.
