dude those korg things are totally sexy bits of kit. some really awesome drumsounds in them, for sure.
you can totally produce pro stuff that way; been done many, many times. you can either just record what your program or, if you have a midi interface, use it in real-time w/ your sequencer. a bit more involved but definitely something to play around with.
you can also build up a pretty wicked sample bank by recording the electribe's sounds, tweaking 'em, and building kits in a software sampler or reason.
if it sounds good and people play it out-- it's pro. if all you use is a speak and spell and a playstation... if people like it and play it, it's pro. dont worry about the tools... the end product is all that matters.

i got the er-1 at home and always thought about that too. concerning professional sounding beats i would say that it is possible. at least with the er-1 you could create your own drum sounds as well as monstrous basslines. nevertheless i haven't yet managed to try the software/hardware-combination... i know no big help...

I also have the original ER-1. It's a lovely bit of kit for Electro sounding beats. A great for blips and zaps.
Pro is such a bloody subjective word, anyway.

ive got the electribe MX and the SX.
both are fucking dope. Ive been doing a lot of my basses with the MX lately... and gawdDAMN it fucking kills!
the MX is pretty limited (i wouldnt make a whole track on it... cant really make decent sounding atmospherics) but for mono synth sounds, it cant be beat.
highly reccomended.

I have the EA-1 synth. I use this synth all the time. Bass, leads and the occasional 303 emulation.
