For some reason massive wont work with fruity loops studio for me. I have installed Massive using the .exe file, i put the DXi massive file in the plugins folder of fruity loops, and refreshed my list so it is in the program. I can do add channel and open it, and see the massive program. That all works fine. The problem is, when i try to play a note in any way (writing it and playing it, hitting a key on my keyboard, etc.) no sound comes out at all. presets are all set up, but nothing worx. any suggestions?

on a completely irrelevant note, I heard the 'Brutal Electro' patch raw for the first time the other day. Chase & Status really should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

Fuck yeah, it's ridiculous isn't it? If you listen to Mad House they haven't even changed it one bit. As well as Street Fighter Riddim (Swerve on production).
RUBBISH!

This criticism of producers who use patches is strange to me. If the instrument does the job you want it to do then why shouldn't you use it?

Well if you take Chase & Status, they've literally used it on every single dubstep tune they've ever done. It's a massive lack of creativity, especially when you consider the amount of critical praise and success they've had with it. Surely the dude at Native Instruments who made the patch should be getting some royalty cheques!?
I agree, if a patch works, it works. But with Brutal Electro it just hits me as being an incredibly lazy way of producing dubstep, especially when the producers in question haven't even made an effort to put their own spin/sound on it.

Doesnt promote originality of any kind and also is a quick fix to something.
Artists should create their own presets, allows them to develop a sound and become a better producer, is utterly pointless using something which has been used a million times, especially when sicker sounds can be created if you take the time to do so.

I just think it's stupid because it's a preset. Sure use a preset and fuck about with it, make it your own. But straight up using one, especially such a huge act lol. Just lazy and cheap imo.

blah blah blah make your own presets. I personally do make my own presets but would someone like to explain to me what the difference is between using a preset and using samples? Same way your using other peoples work for your own benefit, sure the people slagging off using presets here are all perfectly happy using samples.
I usually sit back and read on these forums but thought i needed to stick my two cents it. If it works, it works, why else do you think they supply you with presets? Not to show you sounds your NOT allowed to use of replicate.
Bah.

Valid point that. To be honest I don't think there is anything wrong with using a preset, if it is a sound you like. Much the same as when you sample a sound you like, it is what you do with it that is the important thing.
Chase and Status may have used Brutal Electro, but they have made some boss tunes with it (though I am fairly sure there will be some debate on that) and the last thing I think of when I am throwing shapes is 'pah, I know this, I am fairly sure it comes loaded on Massive, the charlatans'.

Yea get your point, in terms of sound development though I dont think using presets straight out of the box does you any favours

Hahaha awesome. Somehow this coversation moved from me and my stupidity to a conversation on the vality and originality of presets and samples. I love it ^^ in my opinion, dubstep's all about ur own sound. however, if u take someone's preset, and MAKE it your own, even if it's similar to what you started with, I think you can still call it your own

Can I just say, its really facking easy to re-create brutal electro or do something what sounds like the patch has been tweaked on massive....I wouldnt' tag every bass you hear what sounds like it as brutal electro.

With that said, a grip of people have unabashedly used that patch.

why does it matter what patch they used?
it's just nitpicking imo.
if you don't like their music, don't listen to it.
i'm not a fan personally, but just because we all know what patch is in a track because we know a moderate amount about production does not mean anyone gets the right to nitpick.

Nitpick implies a diminutive sense of scale, like nerdy producers are recognizing some minor detail of the song is like a clap from another toon. Often when this patch is used, it is the song.
If you've got nothing to say, get off the stage. There are plenty of people out there that do have something to say. Step Up Your Game brutal electroers.
