I WANT BEEF! (tune battles)

Post by Elkie » Mon Aug 02, 2010 6:58 pm

not really, im a vegetarian..

seriously though, tune battles seem like a good way of improving techniques and skills, and provided they are approached from both sides with a level of maturity and respect, they look like good fun too!

so does anybody fancy one?

or maybe we can set up a thread for pairing people up for tune battles? i know this could possibly start a load more waste threads on here, but its infinitely better than all these "how do i sound like Datsik/Borgore" threads, and people just generally beefing with each other/the whole forum in general..
what do you guys reckon?

sorry i missed that...

is it really though? if its kept civil, its 100% more productive and relevant than at least half of the posts in this subforum...

If it's done in "Private", ie, soundcloud, then I think it's quite a good way to really push yourself in terms of working to a deadline/coming up with better material.
To put it another way; DSF would be the pimp, soundcloud would be the bedroom.

yeah but how do you get people to vote on soundcloud? obviously the tunes will have to be hosted there, but theres not really the "community" feel in the same way there is here to get people to listen and vote for the tunes. maybe a subforum? i dont really get why people would be against this, you dont have to take part if you dont want to, just ignore the threads!

wouldn't it just be easier to get a couple of the regulars on here to judge the tunes?

can just add a poll to a thread and then everyone who wants to vote can vote...

the format is already pretty established, its done on other forums, we just need people to take part!

there's no point with sample packs. people cheat. just make tunes from scratch. once it's all said and done, someone with serato/traktor can do a mix of all the entries together.

i think the idea of using a sample pack is to stop people from cheating, because it means you cant submit something youve already started at an earlier date.

we can make it so you can use other samples if you like, but its a good idea to have something like this i think. unless anyone can think of another way to make it so people cant just submit old tunes?

i listened to your tunes and they are actually pretty well produced, me and my big mouth, too much pear cider i reckon...

this doesnt mean im backing down though...

both the finished tunes on my page are unfinished, mixed horribly and were made in 2008. but thanks.

as for the worrying about people submitting old tunes, there isn't a way to stop that. the closest way would be to make us all use the same dialogue sample from a film or something. but that would be pirating.

how many entries would be involved in this battle? i think it should be an open challenge.

how bout your battle in a genre both of you don't produce normally? you'd also get some new influences that way, that's always cool :D

how about.... jungle 8)

edit: that way you won't be able to "cheat"

oh sheeeeeiiiiit dont say that... :o

using a film sample isnt really gona cut it, people could just drop that sample over something theyve made pretty easy! i think a sample pack is the only way of really doing it!

i've produced dnb for ages. and hip hop. and house.

the reason i make dubstep is because i find i hate all my dnb tunes. i've never bought a single dubstep 12". i've bought thousands of dnb tunes.

we could always make some gay euro trance though.
