So when you are recording or mixing live, do you set you tempo at 70bpm or 140bpm and WHY?

I've heard a few arguments from both sides so I'd like to continue the debate here

140 bpm. Just more room to place drum hits and stuff

hell ill go from half to double the tempo i intend depending on the ammount of control and detail i want

I don't really get this question... They are the same tempo. You could add in your question 35 bpm, 280 bpm, 560bpm. And this only applies if you have quantise on.

if quantise is on you might want to go to 140 or higher to beable to get the detail you like.

No they're not the same tempo at all, one is twice as fast. So you can either use 140 and half time your drum beat or use 70 bpm with normal time drum beat(since that's the real tempo of your drums) and then double time your synth and base lines.

I personally prefer to use 70bpm to write the drum pattern as when I hear that metronome click at the 140bpm rate I can't get the right groove.

it's just a level of detail, you can make 70 bpm stuff at 140, 280, 560 etc

I know a few people who produce at 280, i personally dont see the point, cause i can just change the grid from 16ths to 24ths. Sorted...

listen to some venetian snares

ive produced dubstep at 94, 128, 140, doesnt really matter. Doesnt HAVE to be 140bpm.

i usually program my drums at 280, perfect those with EQing and all,
bounce em out and open that shit up in a 140 for the rest of my track.

its just a nice easy way to get a higher level of detail on the percussion.


i sometimes go to 560 if i want a banging kick roll

this thread doesnt even need to fucking exsist because there's no dispute. 140. anyone who tries it at 70 is actually a fuckin prick who need killing, cause you can't fill in anuff detail at 70.
