WTF is this thing doing?

I hear you bro's talk about a skream unit in all your tutorials and whatnot, and I have had people tell me when its being used in patches... but all i get, is a name, skream. Someone told me it was a filter in massive and another told me it was distortion in reason  ... I just want filled in, haha... its starting to get annoying not knowing

what is it, technically?

and what context are you guys most commonly applying it in? (broad question)

distortion/compressor unit in reason. people use them fer beefin up their synths, but i think its best used very subtly (i.e. not overdriving it). you can also use it fer snares and other sounds. if you overuse it, your sounds will sound a lot less warm and more flat and jarring. using it subtly on 808 kicks (with the tube or tape setting) is very fun.

I havent been able to get any good results using the Scream on snares what so ever. :(

It's a Massive filter type and there's also Screamer, an oscilator filter type in Massive too.

It's one of the best distortion unit's out there. If you ever make the move from Reason to another DAW, the most missed aspect of Reason would be this unit or the RV7000.

wut? I agree scream is good, but not nearly as good as ohmicide by ohm force. Also, i personally think from experience with many many different reverbs, hardware and soft, that the RV7000 sounds like ass

I still haven't found a software reverb that sounds as good as the RV7000...and is there anything in Ohmicide that sounds similar to the Scream's Tape setting? That's the best part in my opinion.

+1 also depone have you opened up the programmer ting in the RV7000? that's how you get the lushness out of it

Definitely have, extensively... to my ears it sounds a bit plastic. Try ativerb convolution reverb and open your ears to a new level! (http://www.audioease.com/Pages/Altiverb ... bMain.html)

Ohmicide, like scream has diferent types of distortion. I have a a few dedicated plugins for tape simulation, freeware and paid, so i dont use it for this.
But for multi-band distortion thuggery, you cant go wrong with ohmicide imo...

And for the record, im not throwing this out as a diss to scream, but rather to get people to explore new things that reason doesnt offer.

Well I'm sure that plugin is far superior but unfortunately I can't afford to spend 600 quid on reverb XD (I could barely afford to get ableton) I'm stuck with ableton/reasons inbuilt plugins and freeware goodies.

"RV7000 sounds like ass"..... HAHAHA. I beg to differ. You must have having a laff. Ok, yes there are very good reverb unit's out there, not doubting that, i have acknowledged that. However, come on the RV is up there man. Multi use...

ohmicide? That's the multi band one right ? Not personally used it my self, but it looks impressive. Although, the scream unit is more then just a distortion unit, it can be used for many other functions to. It's just stated as distortion unit, as very general term for the unit. It can be used for other setting to, i.e if you want abit of saturation, use the tap setting then.. ect. It can even be slightly used on a master. (for abit of warmth, analog feel) Now, am petty sure you would not apply ohmicide to your mater, no matter how trivial you want the effect to be

One more thing, what practical use if there for the ohmicide unit, other then the YAYA baselines? Very gernal term, yes i know. However, i can't seem to think of any other use's, or where i would personally apply that unit?

Yes ohmicide is a multi-band distortion unit. It has several features apart from the obvious distortion models. For example, it also has noise gates, compressors and a whole feedback-loop system to create some gnar.
As for its uses, it excels in a few areas... Its not a jack of all trades, it does a few things verrrry well, and as i said i have other specific plugins for saturation and tape emulation etc..
Some examples are presets used for electric bass, guitar, vocals, drums and of course synths and other textures. Thinking that it just does "YAYA" basses is an oversight. Want to trim that distortion back? it has a dry/wet setting for each band and then one for the whole thing. Flexability is key. and with Screams 2 parameters (excluding the amp simulation), i really don't see how it stands up to it.

Just for creativity's sake (not saying its very practical), have a peep at this using feedback loops (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3uE5ZXWtQ4)

Why dont you download the demo and see for yourself?. Because without trying any of these things you cant realistically hold a valid argument. And it would be the same for me, except i used reason from version 2 thru till 4 until i got logic on a student discount.

And no i would not add this to my master, again i have other specific designed plugins made for this, not one thrown into a 'multi effect distortion unit'.
