Question with CD Decks

Post by quit » Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:51 pm

Hello everyone I have a question with CD Decks. I have been asked to DJ at club, they use CD decks, probably the pioneer's. I have only ever used a hercules rmx midi controller in my bedroom. The thing I want to know is -

1) Do you have to find the cue point manually, lets say I want to go straight to the first drop and skip all the intro, would you have to find it manually? (Its not a problem but I heard something about a button that 'it finds it for you' somewhere?)

2) When I write the CD's, lets say I have planned my set perfectly and plan just to go track 1 > track 2 > track 3 > track 4 etc would I have to burn track 1 to disk 1 and track to to disk 2, track 3 to disk 1 and track 4 to disk 2 and so on?

The problem is CD decks are expensive, does anyone know of some 'cheaper' ones?

Thanks in advance guys, appreciate it :D

Oh also, is it possible to use my hercules rmx as a mixer with turntables or cd decks?

1. I can't speak for Pioneers but on my CDJs you definitely have to find the first drop manually by either fast forwarding through it or letting it play through, but that's why you beat match the intro so the intro builds into the first drop and then you drop it at the next 16 bar phrase.

2. If you want to have a planned set and play it safe then feel free to burn a CD where you go 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6... etc, BUT you need to burn 2 copies of each CD. If you only are doing 1 CD's worth of material that's 2 CDs you need to burn, etc.

I definitely suggest you familiarize yourself a bit more with CDJs before you play though, it might be a bit daunting to step up to pioneers if your used to midi controllers.

Good luck :t: :e:
