First time poster with a first time question (HiHats)

Post by neanderfool » Tue Feb 27, 2007 3:46 pm

Hello all i'm new to this forum and to producing dubstep. I'm getting there with production techniques and now have compression and eqing of drums pretty much sorted, but I can never get decent sounding hihats. How do you take a hihat sample and make it sound bright?

Best bet is to start with a fairly bright hi hat sample, (shit in = shit out)

an eq (additive) should help get a wide q and sweep the high frequencies till you get a nice bright sound obviously dont go overboard a coupe of db's is fine

advice hats wise would be make sure there's not a lot of crap on the end of the sample. in fruity i use the envelope thingies to take out a lot of the end of the sample, making the hat more sharp and crisp
