Easy all,

Looking to get some new headphones for dj monitoring, production and high quality everyday listening.

Can anyone recommend these? And/or a better alternative?

Grado and Ultrasone produce high quality headphones. If I would spend that much on hp's I would probably go for Ultrasones.

It's difficult to recommend any specific headphones that would fit all of those criteria. The HD25 are great for DJing and good for tracking because of the way they almost completely exclude all other sound. They are also good for listening to music on the move / public transport etc when you want to block out the world. They arent nearly as good for 'audiophile' listening or accurate sound when producing - open backed cans are generally better in that situation.

So really you need to prioritise. If you will DJ with them every week but only rarely use them for producing the 25s are good. If you want something mainly for listening pleasure or mixdowns then they aren't really the best bet- look in the sticky for other suggestions.

AKG 240k's for studio use. But you want something more versatile....

Grados are excellent headphones but wouldn't be too good for djing. It's tough to pick a one size fits all. I like open back or semi open back headphones for production because it is more natural sound and are not as fatiguing but you are not going to get enough db out of them for djing live. Better a high db closed back headphone. I wouldn't spend more than 100 bucks on dj headphones myself because shit happens at a gig. And for listening I use the production headphones but for some they are too clinical for casual listening. I like the clinical presentation though. So my suggestion is if you need the cans for djing live then I would get cans suited for that and use them for your other purposes until you save up for legit production headphones. If you are only djing at home then maybe some akg k240's would be good. I have like 5 pairs of cans and two sets of monitors for the various applications lol

I think my priority for the headphones is gonna be with dj'ing, and listening on the bus type stuff, cos i'll hopefully be getting some krk's in the near future which would obviously be far more appropriate for production, the headphones would only be a temporary measure for that.
Cos of that I reckon I'll be going for the HD 25, but just an extra question:

the 'c' variant has a 3m coiled wire as opposed to a 2m straight wire. Is that 3 metres when stretched out? im just wondering which would be more practical when i've got it in my ipod and have to worry about the length of wire in my pocket.

I agree, but because he said for high quality everyday listening. Anyway for DJing I wouldn't spend that much either, cheaper AKG's will do just fine.
