The Bible tells us to be like God, and then on page after page it describes God as a mass murderer. This may be the single most important key to the political behavior of Western Civilization.

Does the bible actually tell us to be like God, at all?
Fairly sure it tells us to follow the will of God, not his actions.

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Re: Cool quotes
wouldnt agree with the first and last part of that quote above.
'Religion is an insult to human dignity'
yet it's been an integral factor in forming dignity in the first place. religion is a tool different people use in different ways. only in the wrong hands, in the actions of the person, is religion a weapon.
'But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion' .. some people do just do evil things, i think it's actually maybe lack of religion, or at least a comprehensive understanding of them.
to cut it short, religions don't kill people, people do.
cant forget Buddha either.

Unity can only be manifested by the Binary. Unity itself and the idea of Unity are already two.

Same really, should have cut it down really. Was just looking for one the said something about peoples morality generally being arbitrary to their faith and that's the first that sprung to mind.d-T-r wrote:wouldnt agree with the first and last part of that quote above.

Of course I'm crazy, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong.
If you think you know what the hell is going on, you're probably full of shit.
Intelligence is the capacity to receive, decode and transmit information efficiently. Stupidity is blockage of this process at any point. Bigotry, ideologies etc. block the ability to receive; robotic reality-tunnels block the ability to decode or integrate new signals; censorship blocks transmission.
Robert Anton WilsonThe shock of discovering that most of the power in the world is held by ignorant and greedy people can really bum you out at first; but after you've lived with it a few decades, it becomes, like cancer and other plagues, just another problem that we will solve eventually if we keep working at it.

A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
He was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher... or, as his wife would have it, an idiot.
Douglas AdamsIt is a rare mind indeed that can render the hitherto non-existent blindingly obvious. The cry 'I could have thought of that' is a very popular and misleading one, for the fact is that they didn't, and a very significant and revealing fact it is too.

If people only knew how hard it is to be wounded, to die, they would all be meek and gentle, would not split into parties, would not incite mobs to attack one another, and would not kill. But when they are in good health they know nothing of this. When they are wounded, no-one believes them. When they are dead, they can no longer speak.
Re: Cool quotes
the bible does say to be like god i'm pretty sure. it's fundamental to judaism anyway, which christianity is founded on.
basically what they mean by being godlike is to feel the constant gratification of bestowal

Everything in nature is beautiful and it is no less beautiful because it is understood. However, the unenlightened man will assign arbitrary values to all things in order to protect and justify his own position. His morals are based on things he wishes were true or which someone else wishes were true. His philosophy pays no attention to relative facts or realities and yet in his life he must deal with them. He is consequently involved in a constant round of pretenses and evasions.

Garrison KeillorTake good care of your friends because there will be times when you are no good to anybody, and there will be no good reason to like you except just out of pure habit.
