So this weekend I attended my first dubstep dance, in the past I've not really given the sound much air and dismissed it as a phase / fad / pile of turd etc etc but unlike anal sex, I figured I needed to try it once before I die....

WOW.

If I'm honest I wasn't really into the transformer sounding, mid range screech, distorted in your face sort of stuff, but a few of the djs played a lot of older stuff by Coki, Benga, Digital Mystikz, Distance and that stuff really grabbed my attention - can anyone recommened some more stuff worth checking on that sort of vibe?

I will say what i say to all my mates who want to get into it.

Go pick up Rinse's I Love Dubstep (http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... sku=863188) and pretty much any of (read all ) the Dubstep Allstars compilations (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/se ... true&ND=-1)

From there its easy to find what style of the sound you like and then just go from there

I thought you said you did try anal sex? lol.

Glad your first dubstep dance was a good one!

Rather than recommending specific producers I'd start with:

The first 'Steppas Delight' compilation on Soul Jazz Records. It's a few years old but still the best and broadest introduction I've heard.

A couple of Dubstep Allstars mixes. My choices would be 3 (Kode 9) and 6 (Appleblim) but they're all worth having.

Dubstep Warz, the 2 hour BBC Radio 1 dubstep special from 2006. It was repeated this weekend so may be available on the iPlayer. Failing that, it's dead easy to find it online.

Once you've listened to those, you'll either be so sick of dubstep that you'll never listen to it again or you'll have worked out who you want to hear more of.
