Using gain after bouncing tracks
one question...
My mixdown's stay below 0.0db on the master channel... however this tends to sit quite low in volume in comparison to most tracks. I find that to equal that of a commercial track, I have to boost it some 10-13db...
How do you lot go about boosting your tracks volume for the purpose of uploading to myspace, soundcloud or sending your tracks out (maybe snippets with soundbites over)?
I have tried applying a gain on the master, but often comes out distorted...
Also, I know that when you submit a signed track to be pro mastered you want to send the original wav/aiff so this is merely a temporary mod on the song.
Appreciate any input to help me out

You need a limiter matelowerthanlower wrote:one question...

Read the whole thing.
Then read it again.
Then read it backwards from end to start.

Re: Using gain after bouncing tracks
One question: Is a saturator the same as a limiter? Whereby it boosts the correct freqs (therefore adding gain(????) but keeping the track from being distorted?

saturation is distortion by driving a signal through an analog medium or circuitry (tube, tape etc)
a limiter is just a compressor with a high ratio generally over 10:1

I really need to mess learn more about mastering.deadly habit wrote:nooooojaydot wrote:One question: Is a saturator the same as a limiter? Whereby it boosts the correct freqs (therefore adding gain(????) but keeping the track from being distorted?

it;s more mix related, just both used in masteringjaydot wrote:I really need to mess learn more about mastering.deadly habit wrote:nooooojaydot wrote:One question: Is a saturator the same as a limiter? focus on using the tools on individual elements and getting a solid mixdown and don't worry about mastering at this point in the game
there's something to get you started
