basically.

my main thing is instrumental hip-hop. i'm signed to an indie label, so you could say i take music VERY seriously. up to this point, i've only been using reason 4.0. now with a budget, i have ableton live (w/ massive, absynth, and fm8), and i have logic studio 9 on my comp. i started making dub/step on the side about 6 months ago, just because i love dubstep. i learned A TOOOOOOOON about synthesis, and creating sounds, and actually learned synths and what not. i definitely do not want to stop creating dubstep, i've played a few parties, and have been offered to play raves and such, i just don't feel like i have enough material yet.

so, now that i have live and logic on my computer, i definitely want to take advantage of atleast one of them.

logic, seems simpler to me. and has nice plug-ins, but i'm turned off by no VST support.
live, on the other hand, seems pretty confusing to me, but i've watched tutorial and what not, i love the sampling features on there, and it supports VST'S.

i know VST's aren't everything, and chances are, i'll be able to tweak either DAW'S sounds and get some good material.

but i'm looking for advice on which one i should maybe consider learning first.

for now, my main focus is just stepping my sound up. and to just gain more knowledge. i'll rewire reason to either one.

i also use both DAW's. it is not right, that logic does not support VST's - it does support them, besides that it comes with some really good built in plugins. i love the logic reverbs and delays, but overall i dont like the logic workflow.
ableton also has plenty of built in stuff, but i dont like their sounds, that is why i use a load of third party plug ins in ableton, b/c i just think they sound better, but this doesnt bother me. if i would have to choose between live and logic i would probably go with live, just b/c for me it is easier to get where i wanna get. logic always comes with a little more confusion, but that is the price for being more of a pro tool than ableton is.
maybe use both DAWs - try to figure out, what fits your needs. there are tons of producers out there bustin serous shit with fl studio, ableton, logic, cubase, pro tools or reason - in the end they just use, whatever they are more comfi with. figure that out yourself. i would go with ableton live though.

Use whatever is easiest, most inspiring for you to work with.

Wrong man,. Logic wont use VST's. They use Audio units or AU or .Component

Most plugin makers use this format as logic has a huge share in the market. If you already have FM8 etc.. all NI's stuff is Audio unit, and comes in the installer.
I have tons and tons of plugs that i use in logic. Dont be fooled that vst is the only virtual instrument type, as theres also RTAS (Protools plugin type)

Reason can't use plugins of any kind.

Logic can use the AU versions of any plug (FM8, Massive, etc)

If you are asking this, there are a myriad of reasons you haven't figured out how to use them. Those questions are best answered by learning the basics of the program. Spend some time doing that and I am sure plenty of folks would be happy to help you fill in the blanks.

I use both live and logic. I love both of them but occasionally want to throw them out of the window.
So for logic:
Audio units don't have midi out functionality which can be a pain in the arse and logics automation feels like it was designed by some bearded old dude who likes to "ride the faders".
And Live:
Still unstable and crashes regularly on my mac and as Futures Untold has previously put it "ableton my first sequencer" (it does look pretty fisher price)

Anyways, live i find good for sketching and getting ideas down quick and then bang it into logic to then do some production later.
I also find it helps splitting the process up like this so i don't get too bogged down with eqing this and compressing that when starting a tune.

You know in the environment you can route any midi signal between any channel strips.?

Yeah man i know the environment reasonably well but that's not what i mean. I've been trying to send midi out of reaktor as an audio unit in logic to sequence other instruments and can't get it working but in live it's pretty easy. Same with sugar byte's thesys.
EDIT - actually i might have sussed it out using the IAC driver in the environment. Sorry slight thread derailment

Yeah i used the IAC driver for bridging VFX (a windows VST Host for mac) and rewiring it into logic. it had varied results.

i wish you guys would have said massive and absynth and fm8 work with logic. i just had to access the au components in the plug-ins folder.

but problem solved. resolution found.

no daw is perfect. thats why u need to choose the one that suits u the most... and learn it front to back
