The right Studio Monitors for me?
I've narrowed down my decision of studio monitors to the Yamaha HS50m's and the Yamaha HS80m's. I'll be working in an averagely sized bedroom, and soon to be working in student accomadation. Will the HS80m's be worth the extra $$$ in the conditions I'll be working in? This will be my first pair of monitors so I just wanted some personal advice from peeps with experience in this area.

Ive got the HS80's, they have better bass response (obviously) than the smaller HS50's but if your room is only tiny then the 50's will be fine.

at the end of the day man, monitors are an investment, you'll be moving around a lot at uni so you wont always have the same room. I'd say get the bigger ones and adjust room treatment accordingly.

I've been using a HS50's in a small room (20'ish each way?) and they've been doing pretty well. Space is definitely much more of a factor with the 80s; they're significantly larger. They wouldn't fit my area

i have the hs80m's also, and i think they're dope, i would go with those.
have you listened to them yet though, that's what i would suggest.

Re: The right Studio Monitors for me?
Need a pretty big room for 8 inch monitors. If you're going to be turning them down then there's really no point spending the extra cash right now, the HS50 should suit you fine especially in a uni room. I would go with smaller monitors and spend the extra cash on a pair of good headphones. Or just spend all the cash on great headphones...
Re: The right Studio Monitors for me?
Yamaha HS50Ms sitting in front of me right now in my small room (18'x10')... They're super clean and imo the clearest sound for the price and size, hands down. I love 'em to death for mid/upper range but they lack bass response pretty bad for dubstep. I knew it when I bought them, but I just don't have room on my desk for the HS80Ms.
I'm wanting to throw a HS10W sub under my desk to make up for the small tops and see how that goes... anyone else done that?
