call for entries on compilation : grungestep

Post by StrangeFlow » Thu Sep 23, 2010 1:43 pm

GRUNGESTEP
------------------
i still have a couple slots open, so if anyone wants to participate, hit me up at:
strangeflowmusic@gmail.com
with your grungestep tracks. Basically, it's any remix you have of an old 90s grunge song,
------------------
PLEASE: these artists have been remixed, do not remix : Nirvana, Beck, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Danzig, Blind Melon, Smashing Pumpkins

Artists you might think about remixing: Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains (!!!!!!!) Tad, Jane's addiction, Marcy Playground, Foo Fighters, Live, Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Toadies, Lemonheads (their older 90s grungier stuff, obviously) Sonic Youth, Weezer (again, their older stuff, please) Hole, L7, Paw, Pong, Babes in Toyland, the Nymphs, the Screaming Trees, Mono Men, Malfunksun, Green River, Blood Circus, the U-Men, Truly, My Sister's Machine, Skin Yard..... etc....
Im sure there are more that i couldnt think of... if it's grunge, go for it.

This should be a fairly big release, artists ill Gates, Figgy, and Arrchie Cooper have signed on, and have done some GREAT tracks...

(So the day everything must be turned in by is Oct. 2, no exceptions, sorry)
Thanks everyone !

ha, its funny.. if you were to analyze it as precisely as possible, the people who go out of their way to hate on other people's ideas are USUALLY the ones who are too afraid to do very much on their own as far as producing, or as far as doing almost anything creative, really. Similiar to the people who go to 4chan all day and look up funny shit but can't tell a joke to save their life.

So thanks, and PLEASE: keep hatin', cuz it's gonna motivate me to make a grungestep vol. 2 in a couple months ! :D

GRUNGESTEP MASSIVE.

a compilation, of remixes of other people's tracks that you have no rights to (or you have some deep pockets and quality contacts in the industry)... how much to buy this release when it comes out?

yes, that's right, but it will be free, free, free !! although we won't make a cent, some good artists will be promoted, along with a new sound in music..

take old genre name add step and it's the internet equivalent of a new subgenre of dubstep no matter if it's been around for ages (see drumstep, robostep etc)

well... yea. if you know anything about music, pretty much any new form of music is often based on older forms of music... look at dubstep, it's a new sound based largely on older different forms of music.. DUB (an old form of jamaican music from.. what, the 70s?) + 2STEP (british dance/electronic-poppy british music from ten years ago or so...) you combine them, make it dark as hell, and there's dubstep.. (i know im simplifying a bit, forgive me, but you get the idea..) ...so, yes, if you combine dubstep/glitch-hop with grunge / a 90s-rock type of sound.... yes, of COURSE you're getting something new...

So there's your little history lesson, BASIC A.

you know, there WAS music before dubstep.. and why shouldn't dubstep remix music that alot of people like? lol.

BTW i love the hate, it keep's me thinking about grungestep constantly. please keep going.

there's a pretty good write up of it there, basically its early 90s rock / grunge (pearl jam, nirvana, the toadies, green river...mudhoney, etc etc etc) and remix it or combine it in whatever way you see fit with modern bassy electronic music...

and BTW what is YOUTUBESTEP lol??? ive heard some shitty dubstep on youtube, is that all it refers to? or is it some weird style that nobody likes?

Isn't that pretty much what grunge was back in the day? The way I remember it was that a large population of people got tired of watching dudes wear makeup, leotards, and singing "Every Rose Has a Thorn." The term grunge just seems to fit with filth, right?

Beat you to it. Here's a remix of "Them Bones-Alice and Chains." Thought it would be fun to do when I read it this morning.
(No whoring intended)
