song templates in logic

who does this? how is it done?

I do it.
All you need to do is set up a song the way you want it, and click File-Save As Template.
I've got several set up: my Autoload, one for audio and soft synths, one with MIDI in, one that contains just audio. Obviously, you can use the factory ones as jumping-off places
Very useful if you need to use Logic in more than one way.

oh, and I only use this with blank songs, but there's no reason not to set up a template with a particular set of instruments or routing or whatever.

i heard something about marking off areas in the arrange window for changes etc.

sure, you could set up a template with colored markers (Global Tracks helps out a lot here) to set up visual reference for 4-, 8-, 16-bar sections, or whatever. I usually do this manually since I often want things marked differently for each song, but it makes sense with Templates too.
If that's what you mean.

i've got a nice big autoload that i can subtract from/add to as the session needs, plus a couple of specific mix-situation ones. my main autoload has markers every 16 bars... really easy to keep track of organization that way. hit apple-T if you need to chnage the markers, etc

All about hidden tracks in yr autoload - opens up nice n neat & u can expand as u add parts - I Love Logic
