I recently installed my flatmates Digidesign MBox soundcard and Yamaha monitors on my laptop. Worked ok for about a week but now I'm getting sound drop outs and really loud clicks which freeze Reason for a split second. And its REALLY annoying.

I've tried changing the buffer size, and nowt happens... anyone else had this??

You using asio drivers?

Yeah. Not too up on the technicalities behind this sort of shit tho...

optimize your pc for audio what os are you using?
also are they passive or active speakers?

increase your audio buffer size.

As i said, buffer size makes no difference.

I'm using XP - how do I optimize for sound? And I think they're active speakers.

is mbox firewire or USB? Either way, make sure you haven;t got anything else connected that MIGHT be fucking your shit up. I;ve had random USB devices fuck with audio USB ones for no reason at all.

Secondly, have you changed anything sicne you installed and it was all working ok? I mean ANYTHING like a mouse, keyboard, usb flash drive etc

Have you installed anything software wise either?

Also try and make sure you havent got any shit runnign inthe background like msn messenger, turn all visual themes off (hold windows key and press pause/break, then select the advanced tab, click performance/seettings then select adjust for best performance. then in the advanced tab select adjust fro best performance of background services)

Well, I've got a USB wireless mouse thing, but thats always been there.

I have installed some software (Flash/Dreamweaver I think), but nothing audio wise. I can't think how that would make a difference.

I've also had a look at an online audio optimization guide and I already do most of the things recommended - I have a pretty fast, crap-free, new machine.

I think its to do with the laptop communicating with the mbox. Someones mentioned clock speed to me. Does anyone know about this?

first if reason is freezing i'd reinstall it, check that you have the m-box selected as your soundcard, make sure you have the lastest drivers for the soundcard.

Could his problem be graphics ? Mine does it from time to time so I have to minimise the things that are graphically 'moving' e.g other programs, level leds, minimise Reason devices.
