Finally decided to upgrade from my passive tannoy reveal 5a's. Was thinking of getting some samson rubicons but after some long hard consideration, i decided i really want some active monitors with an 8" driver. Finally boiled it down to either the krk rokit's or the mackie mr's. Been reading loads of reviews on the internet, and still can't decide. Some reviews say that the krk's have too much bass and a sharp mid range, whilst the mackies have a flat response, but then other reviews say something entirely different. None the less they have both got great reviews overall. If anyone has any of these monitors or can shed any light on the situation it would be much appreciated.

I've read long and hard and come to the same conclusion as you, impossible to know from internet reviews and people talking. I think if you can't listen just go with whichever, and work to treat your room a little (as much as possible). Differences have to be less than minimal. Ultimately they're all going to improve your mixing no end if you're moving from stereo (like me) and you take time to learn them. I'm hoping to be able to listen to them, but very few monitors about in Dunedin NZ. So unsure what to do as well. No one is going to be able to say authoritatively "these monitors are the BEST and are better than the others". It's subjective, and stupidly room dependent. From what I've read I'm thinking the samsons, and then going to drop about a $k on bass traps, some side + roof panels, mopads + stands, and some movie tickets to get my g/f out of the house ( )

jast time i had a shootout with em the mackies were muddy compared to the krks
