[GLASGOW] 11/12/10 Men&Machines w/ Manuel Gottsching LIVE

Post by menandmachines » Fri Oct 08, 2010 2:55 pm

Men and Machines present Manuel Göttsching LIVE
Saturday December 11th
Stereo, doors 7pm

It would be an understatement to say we are delighted to announce the first ever Scottish concert by German composer and multi-instrumentalist Manuel Göttsching. Manuel is a pioneer of electronic music who has been recording and performing for over four decades. He was hugely influential in the German Kosmische Musik scene, and he has had a profound influence on the development of house, techno and electronic music in general.

Manuel was the leader of Ash Ra Temple/Ashra, who together with bands like Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Can, contributed to the development of the pioneering German Kosmische Musik scene in the 1970s and 80s. They recorded some of the most amazing pieces of early experimental electronic music and during this time Manuel built a reputation as one of the most important guitarists of the era.

He has also recorded extensively as a solo artist. His 1981 recording E2-E4 is an hour long ambient classic, and probably his most celebrated work, and gained a great deal of attention at the end of the 80s, influencing the development of house and techno. It has been remixed and sampled by dozens of bands and DJs, most famously by Sueno Latino, Carl Craig and Basic Channel. More recently James Murphy acknowledged that E2-E4 was the influence behind his 45:33 track.

In the same year that E2-E4 was recorded, Manuel also recorded, mixed and produced the 10" album “Die Dominas” which is one of our favourite records ever. This was the basis for the Maurizio/Carl Craig ‘Domina’ track on Basic Channel that is probably better known than the original.

We could go on and on, but there’s too much to mention in a career so long…

Manuel’s last UK concert was at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000, and he only plays a handful of shows around the world each year, normally to thousands of people. Frankly we can’t quite believe he’s agreed to come and play somewhere as small as Stereo! We’re expecting a lot of interest in this from all over the UK, so don’t hang about on tickets.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Goethe-Institut Glasgow for their support with putting this event on (http://www.goethe.de/glasgow).

Tickets: £15 (plus booking fee)
