Anyone hop right into dubstep, or R U from another scene?

Post by decklyn » Sat Mar 10, 2007 5:22 am

Just wondering if everyone is defectors or if there are some kids that hopped into dubstep like I hopped into jungle at 16 years old...

It's a bit of an aqquired taste I imagine. even more so than dnb.
But it's hard for me to subjective around that cause I've been doing drum and bass for so long...

breaker...breaks purest for like 4yrs....
.......there is no dubstep "scene" persay here in SW Ontario.
but theres enough support to provide the occasional shindig.

Dnb. i would hardly say it's an aquired taste, it seems to be the genre that anyone can jam too.... People jump into it fairly quickly.

Arrived at dubstep through listening to mainly ambient, trip-hop and a bit of dnb. I've never been really big on dnb although I appreciate some of it. Tends to be more of a mood thing, whilst dubstep is my staple.

Oh yeah and hi to the forum. Looking forward to chatting all things DS.

Hip hop, Reggae, Ska, Punk, Dubstep

pretty much in that order since 2001, i heard it on a few Grime radio shows then started getting pesterd by a mate, who got me to listen to some albums.

I'm still a Hip Hop boy though,,,,

was always into rap/hiphop, then got into grime, but so many shit mcs i never got too heavy into it. I always thought the beats were better than the garbage the dudes were talking, so when i heard dubstep i was all smiles. no disrespect to the mc's, there are some damn good ones out there, but comin' from the us rap scene i was sad to see so many grime dudes rhyming the same last word endlessly. loving the dubstep, now i got that bangin' out my speakers

Came in from Grime. Got into Grime from 2step/garage. Pretty much been following UKG through its transitions.

I come from the classical scene, manz be recycling old mozart riddims like nobody's business and there's too much drama at the average symphony recital, manz getting condescending looks from men in cravats and shit- I had to get into a more peaceful and progressive kind of music before someone got poked in the face with a woodwind instrument you get me

drum n bass stuff like renegade hardware, barcode, noisia, kryptic minds, chase n status, break, blahdy blah. find it more difficult to get dnb i like, and was zapped 100% when i heard dubstep warz. too many sounds and styles! so so hooked on it. so many artists who release blinding tune after blinding tune.

i dont think i'll ever turn my back on dnb, cos its still very different to dubstep and i reckon theres enough room in my life for both.

i feel they do complement each other. contrary to what other peeps think.

didnt hop, but Punk is my home, has been for years.

I have put on punk shows, put out punk records and buy a tonne of punk.. and all sub genres really from 77 stuff to 80s hardcore to emo to indie rock to pop punk.. thats kinda been my musical life, although I am a general music enthusiast and a bit of a trivia machine sometimes, Dubstep has really been the first dance music ive been properly into as a SCENE as such

Id like to think musical taste is a ever growing thing not so much an evolution, I wanna have a record collection the size of John Peels and still know what the all sound like!
