Veteran producer Red Army has been playing and creating drum and bass for over 10 years. Having released on Phuturo, Skunkrock, Argon, and Breakbeat Science, the Sacramento-based producer is known for deep vibes with a heavy low-end. On Abracadaver, his first EP for Onset Audio, Red Army plays the role of a demented mage, conjuring demons and angels with this four pack of driving, moody burners.
Drugstore Cowboy is a percussive beast, where a classic soul sample signals the charge into heavy organic drums and a growling bassline. Tough drums and a gritty feel make Cowboy a real up-tempo stormer with serious dance-floor appeal.
West Coast gang warfare is the vibe on California Roll- where aggressive synth fanfare rides over hard stepping drums until peaking at a full-on aggro D&B workout.
True to Red Army’s notorious style, Object Identified combines heavy rolling bass with driving snares that keep the show moving at a spacey high-speed velocity.
Finally, Army takes it down to a dubstep tempo with Alprazolam, with pleasing results. A variety of emotive and progressive elements add a complexity and depth to the proceedings, leaving listeners with a heady cool-down session to round out the EP.
