Eskmo Bass

Post by yamaz » Thu Oct 14, 2010 7:16 am

Any tips or ideas on how to get such revving engine bass sound that Eskmo uses? I'm using massive and ableton...but I think he uses logic/es-2

example 1 - 0:25 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEngUqym ... re=related

example 2 - 0:19 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8dkAc5ZJVY

Also another, this one is a bit different than the above two - 1:10 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEngUqym ... re=related

Thx!

I tried to make the same sounds on hearing them and swiftly gave up. Not a clue. It's a sweet sound though.

example 2 sounds like its just got a rising pitch bend on it with a quick pitch down at the end, just put that on a nice gritty bass sound and see what you get

Definitely aint brutal electro XD I think he uses saw waves as the basic start point then does a LOT of heavy processing and very harsh EQing layering as he goes. It would take years to perfect that kind of clarity and the 'natural' feel he manages to obtain I reckon.

I would not doubt the use of Vocoder (as EQ) Shifting on wide intervals
along with slight flange would give that thick (with slight metal) feel

but this is a good question, def a producer who discovered his own sound and gladly is sticking to it

i think he uses similar techniques to neurofunk producers, basically fucking around with everything until he reaches perfection

well seeing as his background in production is quite varied i'd look to breaks and d&b since he was doing both long before dubstep

example 1 is defo scrapyard oscillator inside massive.

example 2 is more of a pitchbend affair... easy to do.

eskmo's sound design is so amazing that it often is a huge disappointment when 1 does catch a glimpse of a familiar sound in his tunes.

Eskmo seems to love his pitch bends on the bassline. I always wondered who was the driving force between he and Antiserum in Speaker's Corner for the bassline - until i started listening to Eskmo's tracks :P
