audiounit question..
i just ordered a focusrite saffire usb 6. im excited. but i have one noobish question. will this sound card make the sound of my audio clips sound better, or will it only improve the sound of things that are plugged into it via the inputs? i do all my drums strictly in audio, for example, so im just wondering if i will notice a difference in the sound quality of these one-shot samples due to the soundcard

Re: audiounit question..
depends on your sampling rates of the audio clips & projects you are working in and the same applying in relation to your current sound card
Re: audiounit question..
surely he's working in 24bit, so it won't sound better with that specific interface. Correct me if i'm wrongdeadly habit wrote:depends on your sampling rates of the audio clips & projects you are working in and the same applying in relation to your current sound card

you're making a big assumption thereProject EX wrote:surely he's working in 24bit, so it won't sound better with that specific interface. Re: audiounit question..
Not really. Internal processing will be done at 32 bit float (or higher) unless he's working in Pro Tools.deadly habit wrote:you're making a big assumption thereProject EX wrote:surely he's working in 24bit, so it won't sound better with that specific interface. Arguably a better sound card will make better recordings from external audio, and will improve the accuracty of the sound going from your computer to your monitors -- but it has no effect on anything happening inside your computer. In fact, unless the rest of your signal chain is really top-end, you're unlikely to hear the difference. The advantage is better reliability, better drivers, possibly lower attainable latency, more inputs/outputs, mic preamps if applicable, etc.

no i was saying he's assuming the person is working in 24bit to begin with and not on some onboard cardstatic_cast wrote:Not really. i've learned especially on this board that assuming the least bit is going for a stretch, but yes you're completely right
surprisingly some people still work in 16bit for some reason

Re: audiounit question..
Good quality inputs : Improved audio quality of recordings
Good quality outputs : Improved quality of what you hear. If you can hear your mix better then this could very well lead on to better mixes
Hope you enjoy the USB 6 btw, We are selling them by the dozen at work, not used them myself but am extremely happy with my saffire LE atm
