saw this in the news this morning, pretty shocking. not only is their target audience vunerable people, the thing stinks of eugenics.

it does make sense in a warped way but offering money to people who are likely to be desperate for it means that that may be their true motivation for getting it done rather than any real understanding that having kids is a bad idea

i'm guessing this kind of sterelisation isn't reversible either? encouraging addicts to make a choice like this whilst you're under the influence isn't very ethical if you can't change your mind about it in the future

it's not meant to be a help for the addict, it's meant to stop them having kids so the kids don't grow up fucked up

The sickest thing is that its an American 'charity' working in this country. Why hasn't this been banned/fire bombed yet?

It just exploits the needs of a drug addict to fulfill its own agenda. This needs to be shut down.

It's their own choice ainit? No one's forcing them to get sterilised.

I mean, if they're stupid enough to be sterilised, then well. Might not be so bad for the gene pool. Also, some of them might actually not ever want to have kids, so why not? There are plenty of non-drug using adults who don't have kids. If anything, this is discriminatory against them. They should be given £200 too.

What if you're infertile anyway?

When u think about the life of a poor child being brought up by smackheads who have no idea how to look after themselves, let alone a child, and the effects of neglect, bad parenting and who knows what other domestic problems the child would inevitably be exposed to, is doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Bit fucked up, but would help improve the gene pool and if the addict wisens up, gets clean and suddenly realises he or she is ready to be a parent, fuck em! They'd just have to accept the consequences of the choices they've made throughout their life. And adoption is always an option, although would ex-addicts be allowed to adopt? Prob not.

Not saying I support the idea, but can see the arguments for both sides.

Fair enough if you're an addict and choose to be sterilised, but to dangle money in front of people, exploiting their addiction, to bribe them into being sterilised is foul.

Yeah thats the bit thats pretty fucked up on a moral level.

But when you consider a heavy addict who isn't in the right frame a mind to make a serious decision, what would be the worst scenario...choosing to get sterilised then blowing that £200 on their drug of choice, or choosing to have a baby with an equally as fucked up and incapable partner?

I know what i'd prefer them to do!
