or is the answer "all of the above"? one of the strongest tunes on cosmogramma for sure.

im willing to bet its "all of the above" i suppose the most natural way to work would just be to use whatever naturally sounds good so it can be any combination of them

i wouldnt underestimate the power of putting lots of hours into programming out rhythms though! especially if you know the rhythms of sounds like samba salsa meringue batucada rhumba etc, studying latin rhythms did wonders for my music

you're definitely correct there. latin & african rhythms ftw! it's the drums that make this tune imo. mad time spent here.

it's weird...i always thought this tune was good but in the past two or three weeks i've been playing it multiple times a day. shit is hypnotic.

i think live drums end up sounding more natural, more 'swingy', less rigid (obviously i'm not the only one who must think this).

obviously there's dudes who can replicate programmed drums on a live kit and vice versa or whatever...but one will always sound inherently more programmed or live.

like those african drumming circles...if one was gonna try and recreate that, sure someone can go and grab a bunch of one-shots and try and place them hit for hit, perhaps fiddle with groove settings. shit would still sound robotic as hell.

but hey, over the weekend i'm gonna try and get the entire drum pattern of this song going and see how closely i can get to what fly lo has going on here. see how wack it ends up lol.
